Cong defeat in MC poll brings infighting to fore
Batala, August 2 Sharma alleged that Sekhri indulged in favouritism, and discriminated against the genuine candidates while allocating the party ticket for the elections in the various wards of Batala. He further alleged that even when some candidates succeeded in getting the party ticket on the intervention of the Congress high command, Sekhri did not campaign wholeheartedly in their favour. On the other hand, when contacted on the phone, Ashwani Sekhri refuted the charges. He said he had not allocated the party ticket alone. A seven-member committee of local senior Congress leaders was responsible for allotting the party ticket to various candidates. Sekhri described Sharma’s charges as baseless and false. He charged him with being hand in glove with leaders of the BJP and the SAD.
