Over 500 surplus teachers to be posted out

More than 500 surplus teachers of various government schools of the district are set to be transferred to other districts and far-off villages because of the rationalisation policy of the education department. This morning, more than 500 surplus teachers were asked to report at Government Senior Secondary School, Bharat Nagar Chowk, to be apprised of their transfer.

After maintaining an upward trend for over two months, vegetable prices recorded a decline of 20 per cent to 50 per cent last week. Surplus vegetables coupled with a drop in demand has led to the fall in prices, dealers say.

Left mourns Surjeet’s death
Ludhiana, August 2
Communists paid rich tributes to Harkishan Singh Surjeet, a former CPM general secretary, who died after a prolonged illness in New Delhi yesterday. In a condolence meeting organised at the party office here yesterday, CPM functionaries described it as an irreparable loss for the party and the nation.

Cops to dig sewer pits

The city police is trying to ascertain whether illegal abortions were being carried out on a large scale and the aborted foetus were buried in a sewer pit inside the Gambhir hospital located at the Pakhowal road."We have got information that there could be lot more than just one case of abortion”, said a senior police official.

Indoor patients at the Christian Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) have alleged that hospital authorities were compelling them to buy medicines from a hospital pharmacy. The medicines in this pharmacy were costlier then those offered by other pharmacies in the city.
