Jalandhar, June 19
The district education department has decided to chargesheet the staff of 63 government schools for bringing dismal results in classes VIII and XII in the Punjab School Education Board examinations this year.

The fact file of the class X results, which was declared last Saturday, is yet to be prepared.

As per the policy of the education department, all schools with a pass percentage below 20 have been chargesheeted.

The staff of the schools will be asked to assign reasons for the poor results and explain as to why action should not be taken against them for the bad show.

Of the total 63 schools, teachers of 47 schools will be chargesheeted for the class VIII results, staff of nine schools for the class XII humanities results, five schools for the class XII science results and two schools for the class XII vocational trade results.

According to the data prepared by the department, there are as many as eight schools where the pass percentage is zero. Schools which have not been able to get a single student passed up to the middle level include those at Bhullar, Garha (boys), Johal, Pabwan and Mundi Kasu.

As many as 11 schools have a pass percentage of less than 10 for class VIII and 36 schools with a pass percentage of less than 20.

Of the total 436 schools, only three schools, including those at Rampur and Umarpur Billan, have managed 100 per cent results.

Only 39 schools have got a pass percentage of more than 80.

Eighty schools have a pass percentage ranging from 60 to 80.

The maximum numbers of schools have a pass percentage ranging from 40 to 60.

A total of 133 schools fall in this category while another major chunk comprising 125 schools falls in the 20 to 40 per cent category.

In the class XII science group, Raipur Parola school does not have even a single pass out.

None of the 26 schools in the science stream has 100 per cent results. The maximum pass percentage is 85.71 for Nakodar girls school.

There are only 17 schools which offer class XII in vocational trade. None of the five students of the school at Randhawa Mansanda passed. Three schools, including Chak Kalan, Mehatpur girls and Lohian Khas, however, have all the students passed.

The commerce group students have faired much better compared to the other schools.

The lowest pass percentage among the 19 schools offering this stream is 38.46. The Jamsher Khas, Kala Bakra, Mehatpur and Bajwan Kalan schools have scored 100 per cent results. In the humanities stream, five of the total 156 schools have got 100 per cent results.

DEO (secondary) Harinder Sawhney, however, said the results this year were better than previous years. He said the staff of all the schools which had failed to deliver more than 20 per cent results would be chargesheeted.

Car Fire
Forum asks insurance firm to pay up
Our Correspondent

Nawanshahr, June 19
The District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum, in a decision here on Monday, directed United India Insurance Company Limited to sanction the claim of complainant Harpreet Singh of Mahalon village to the tune of Rs 3.25 lakh as per the insurance policy, less salvage value of the car i.e. Rs 25,000 and disburse the same to the complainant with interest at 10 per cent per annum from the date of submission of the report by the surveyor.

Besides, the forum also directed the insurance company to pay Rs 5,000 on account of compensation for the mental harassment to the complainant as well as the litigation expenses.

In his complaint, Harpreet Singh had said that he got his Mark Lancer car (PB-08-AD-0200) insured from United India Insurance Company Limited, Nawanshahr.

The car, on account of a short-circuit of wires, caught fire and was completely burnt. The matter was reported to the city police station. A claim for the damage was lodged with the insurance company.

In response, the insurance company, had got the spot inspection done and deputed its surveyor for the final survey and report.

The insurance in its submission had stated that the surveyor had negotiated the claim of the complainant to the tune of Rs 1,75,000 on the net salvage basis less exclusion clause Rs 500.

The complainant was duly informed and his approval to it was sought. But the complainant, instead of submitting consent letter to it, insisted upon having the full claim of the insurance (i.e. Rs 3.25 lakh).

S.M.S. Mahal and Jagjit Kaur Mader, president and member of the forum, respectively, after going through the documentary evidence placed on record and hearing the arguments of both the parties, found that the failure of the insurance company to settle the claim as per insurance policy amounted to deficiency in service and it was unjust to seek any consent from the complainant for settlement of his claim for Rs 1,75,000.
