Youth killed in police encounter
Hisar, June 19 According to the police, some youths travelling in a jeep did not stop when signalled to do so at a police checkpoint near Sector 9. Cops chased the jeep and on reaching Garanpur, the occupants of the jeep fired at the policemen, who returned fire. The police found the jeep abandoned on the roadside and the body of a youth was found in a pool of blood on the passenger seat adjacent to the driver’s seat. A country-made pistol was also found in the jeep. The deceased has been identified as Mahendra of Karanpura Khurd village. Incidentally, the police has been on a look out for a notorious gangster, Subhash Fauji, for the past few days. He had shot dead Ishwar Singh, a former sarpanch of Mattarsham village, who had been out on bail. Ishwar Singh was sentenced to life for killing six members of his family. Villagers block road in protest
BHIWANI: A large number of villagers blocked the Bhiwani-Tosham road on Thursday in protest against the police, which killed a youth in an encounter near here. DSPs of Bhiwani and Hisar arrived on the spot and started inquiry into the encounter case. A team of the Hisar police chased Mahender when the latter ignored the police naka near here. Mahender Singh was reportedly coming to Bhiwani in his pickup car. Assuming Mahender as a notorious criminal, the police team encountered him near here. He died on the spot. The villagers alleged that the police had killed an innocent person. The police could have saved a life by arresting the deceased, a villager said. Since the Hisar police committed the crime, the local police avoided any query in this regard. |
Alleged Suicide by Arhtiya’s Family
Kurukshetra, June 19 Mam Chand Singla, a debt-ridden arhtiya from Pehowa in the district, along with his family of nine members, had allegedly driven his car into the Bhakra Canal. The state government was forced to hand over the case to the CBI as the daughter and other family members had disputed the official claim that the Singla family had committed “mass suicide”. Several Vaish and Aggarwal organisations today staged a dharna at mini-secretariat against the official inaction against the delay in probing the incident by the CBI. Taking a dig at various human and women rights organisations, the protesters said all outfits remained a mute spectator. The Haryana Aggarwal Sammelan, Haryana Vaish Mahasammelan, Vaish Jagriti Manch and the Traders' Community Haryana in a jointly convened meeting held here today under the chairmanship of Vishwa Pal Goel, appealed Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda to take up the matter with the centre for speedy investigation. The protesters also submitted a memorandum to the Kurukshetra ADC meant to be forwarded to the Haryana Governor. Meanwhile, police sources said since the case had been forwarded to the CBI, it was now up to the central agency to decide on the case. "The overburdened CBI may even decline the request to investigate the case," said a senior cop. However, the sources said other state investigating agencies, including crime branch or a special investigating team (SIT), might start investigations only if the family requested the state government in this regard. The Singla family had allegedly gone missing on March 16 and the relatives alleged that no serious efforts were made by the police to trace them. Agitated over the indifferent attitude of the local police, the family had also alleged that no efforts were put to match the handwriting of the deceased with that of the suicide note and 21 names scribbled on a wall of their house. These were the persons who had allegedly refused to repay their loan to Mam Chand. |
Congress betrayed Adampur voters, says Sampat
Fatehabad, June 19 Talking to the mediapersons here today, the former minister, who unsuccessfully contested the Adampur byelection on the INLD ticket, said the government had supplied over 6,000 electric poles to villages in Adampur on the promise that they would be provided electricity connections soon. But now, the government was in the process of registering FIRs for the theft of electric poles against farmers in the area, he alleged. Local Congress leader Ranjit Singh, who was the party’s candidate in the recently concluded Adampur byelection, has, however, denied the allegations and said neither he nor any other Congress leader ordered the supply of poles. Referring to the records of communication between a construction company KLG Systel, Gurgaon, and the management of the DHBVN, Hisar, Sampat Singh said the company, which was assigned the contract of segregation of rural and agriculture feeders in the area, had alleged that 1,093 electric poles belonging to the company worth Rs 21.86 lakh had been stolen from Balsamand, Matarshyam, Ladvi, Aryanagar, Kalirawan, Modakhera, Kirmara and Chikanwaas villages. Six of these villages fall under the Adampur constituency while other two fall in the adjoining Bhattu Kalan. Sampat Singh informed now the DHBVN had written to the police to register FIRs against the farmers. Similarly, he said over 900 poles of a Hyderabad-based construction company and 4,000 poles of the DHBVN had also been supplied to the constituency without actually providing power connections. Accusing the Congress of betraying the voters, Sampat Singh alleged that the conduct of the ruling party amounted to the violation of the People's Representation Act. The INLD leader said his party would not allow the authorities to lift poles from farmers, who had been provided with these for power connection nor would the party tolerate registration of cases against innocent farmers. He demanded registration of criminal case against Ranjit
Singh. |
Violations by illegal industries go unchecked
Panipat, June 19 A large number of industries have been operating from residential areas of the city without even seeking licence from the administration. These industries not only violate the pollution laws but also the labour laws. Investigations carried out by The Tribune revealed that many of these unregistered industries had been injecting polluted waters directly into the ground thus causing in-repairable damage to the underground water leaving it inapt for human consumption. This is done to save money which otherwise could have been spent on installing a water treatment plant. Besides, many industries do not have a regular sewer connection and thus these prefer to dump the wastewater on roads outside their establishments. Yashpal Malik, president of the Industrialists’ Association, asserted that there were at least 600 industrial units in the city that had been operating without any licence. He said it was the regular industries that felt the pinch of the violations being committed by the illegal units. These units also pay less to unsuspecting labourers, who are even made to work extra time so that owners can mint more money at their cost. Women labourers are always paid less. Illegal industries also violate laws related to the location of factories, safety norms, underage workers and care of infants of women labourers. Refuting the charges, senior officials said whenever any such matter was brought to their notice, they initiated appropriate action against such factories. Registered industrialists said either owners of illegal industries were politically well connected or they managed to bribe government officials so that they could continue with their illegal practices unabated. |

JIND: The Haryana police on Thursday dismissed three police officials, including an assistant sub-inspector, who was posted at Narwana town here, following a sting operation by a private TV channel. The channel had recently aired a story involving two of the three dismissed cops boasting of their “authority” of getting any person trapped into any false case for a certain amount of money as bribe. The district police chief issued the orders of termination of service of both the policemen this noon after getting a case booked against them. While one of the accused has been arrested, the other one is reportedly absconding. The dismissed cops identified as ASI Ishwar Singh and head constable Rattan Singh had reportedly told a TV journalist, who had approached them with a hidden camera, that they were capable of getting any person implicated in any false case, if anyone paid them Rs 2,000.
