Rohtak to have region’s first IIM
Rohtak, June 13 A few days after the creation of a medical university here, the way has been cleared for the setting up of an Indian Institute of Management (IIM) - the country’s most reputed management education institution - in the district. The Haryana government has sent a proposal for setting up an IIM in Garnawati village in the district to the union ministry of human resources development. According to highly placed sources, the proposal was today received at the ministry. With this, the last roadblock on the path of establishing an IIM in Rohtak has been removed. Persistent efforts by Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda bore fruit when the HRD ministry accepted a proposal of the state government regarding the matter some time ago. However, the union ministry gave conditional approval to the project, subject to availability of suitable land for the purpose. The Haryana government constituted a team under state financial commissioner-cum-principal secretary (revenue) K.S. Bhoria to identify land for the setting up of the IIM. Haryana financial commissioner-cum-principal secretary (technical education) Ajit Mohan Sharan and Rohtak divisional commissioner J.P. Kaushik were the other members of the panel. The committee identified 165 acres in Garnawati village near Rohtak town and found it suitable for the purpose. Following this, the state government sent the proposal along with the details of the available land to the union ministry. “The setting up of an IIM in Rohtak is a significant milestone in our roadmap of creating educational infrastructure in the state,” observes Rohtak MP Deepender Singh Hooda, who has been instrumental in getting the IIM sanctioned for Rohtak. If all goes well, this will be the first of the seven new IIMs likely to come up in near future; and also the first IIM to be located in the entire region. |
Subdivision status for Indri soon
Indri (Karnal), June 13 The thanksgiving rally brought cheer on the faces of many as the Chief Minister announced to grant the subdivision status to Indri soon. Besides, he promised more development funds for all panchayats of the area and assured to upgrade the local hospital. The demands for the same were put forth by newly election legislator from this constituency Bhimsen Mehta right at the onset of the rally. Addressing the gathering, the Chief Minister said the rival parties had committed “political suicide” by going for the byelections in three constituencies. “The results have shown that the INLD has been discarded by the people, the HJC is yet to establish a political identity and the BJP has no standing in the state,” he asserted. HPCC president Phool Chand Mullana said it was beyond doubt that the mandate was in favour of the Chief Minister. MP Arvind Sharma said the Hooda government had taken historic decisions for the welfare of all sections of society. Rajya Sabha member Ram Prakash said the Chief Minister was a popular leader and would definitely form the next government in the state. Agriculture minister Mohinder Singh said the people had stood by the truth. HPCC working president Kuldip Sharma said the byelections were held in a democratic manner. He said the results had inflicted a political injury on the rivals. He said the party would hold a rally at Adampur soon. |
Now, Sarita’s husband threatens suicide
Rohtak, June 13 Giving yet another twist to the matter, Sarita’s husband Subhash today threatened to commit suicide if he did not “get justice” and “allegations continued to be levelled against his wife even after her
death”. Subhash, along with a delegation of villagers from Bagpur, his native village in Jhajjar district, met new Rohtak range inspector-general of police V. Kamraj today. The delegation expressed apprehension that the supporters of the dismissed policemen Balraj and Sheelak Ram, who had resorted to violent protest demonstrations yesterday, could influence the course of investigation by putting pressure on the state authorities. The
IGP, however, assured the villagers that the law would take its own course and anybody found guilty would not be spared. Talking to The Tribune after the meeting, Subhash said he had also stated before the IGP that if justice was not done; he, along with his two daughters, would also commit suicide at the state Police Headquarters in Panchkula where his wife had ended her life. The IGP could not be contacted for his comments. SSP Alok Mittal maintained that two police personnel had been deployed for the security of
Subhash. He, however, denied having any knowledge of the suicide threat. Meanwhile, CPM state secretary Inderjit Singh has demanded that DGP
R.S. Dalal should be removed for its “irresponsible” remarks over the matter.
