The people’s anger against the INLD was so intense that its supremo Om Prakash Chautala could not even become the leader of the opposition in the Vidhan Sabha. The BJP in Rajasthan would meet the same fate as the INLD had met in Haryana. Lashing out at Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje, Deepender said the people living in palaces could not think of the welfare of farmers and the poor. Suicide by Trader’s Family
Karnal, June 1 Mam Chand Singla, a ‘debt-ridden’ arhtiya from Pehowa town, along with his family comprising nine members, had allegedly driven his car into the canal. Seven bodies, including three children and one pregnant woman, were recovered from the canal on March 31. The bodies of two of his sons were recovered from the canal waters in Karnal district. However, as the daughter and relatives of Singla had disputed the suicide claim, the state government was forced to hand over the case to the CBI. The role of the local police is also under scanner. The family had allegedly gone ‘missing’ since March 16 and the relatives said no serious efforts were made to trace them. Even after two weeks of disappearance, no effort was made to match the handwriting of the deceased with that of the ‘suicide note’ and 21 names scribbled on a wall of their house. Subsequently, the SHO and chowki in charge of Pehowa were suspended after it was found that the complaint about the family ‘gone missing’ was not entertained by them. Sources said there was also a need to look into the reasons behind enormous cash withdrawals from various bank accounts of Singla and mortgaging of his properties since early this year. The role of a former business partner of Singla, who had gone missing after the incident, is also under scanner. Singla’s relatives have also rubbished the claims that he was under enormous debt as besides a flourishing rice business, the deceased had significantly invested in real estate in different parts of the state. Meanwhile, officials said the CBI would appoint an investigation officer (IO) for the case by the end of this week. |
