State initiates steps to check illegal mining
Chandigarh, September 2 The department has erected barriers and stopped all kutcha roads passing through its land in Yamunanagar district. The mining mafia was using these roads to dig out construction material like stones and sand along the Yamuna river and the forest land. Earlier also the department had closed these kutcha roads by digging trenches, as a result of which a large quantity of construction material collected by the maning mafia could not be taken out of the forest land. However, late the department allowed the use of its roads after the mafia managed bring political pressure on the powers that be. Similarly, informed sources say, land sharks are eyeing valuable forest land in Mewat district. The land, estimated to be worth crores of rupees, is situated at Khoi village in that district. The land belonged to the panchayat and the forest department had planted a large number of saplings on it under the Aravali project. The land sharks, reportedly backed by an influential Congress MP, managed to change the ownership of the land in their names. How it happened? It remains a mystery and needs a thorough inquiry. The land mafia not only felled a large number of trees, it also wanted to convert the land for constructing a colony. To protect this valuable land, the forest department has moved the Environment Court against the land mafia, which has annoyed the influential Congress MP. But at least the time, the case is pending before the court, the mafia will not be able to succeed in its nefarious designs, the sources say. |

Surjewala for law banning auction of farmers’ land
Narnaund (Hisar), September 2 Addressing ‘Prerna rally’, he said land was the farmers’ only means of earning a livelihood and no financial institution should resort to auctioning of land to recover arrears of loans. He said this black law empowering banks and other financial institutions to auction farmers’ land should be scrapped. He said while a defaulting farmer’s house or other property could be auctioned to recover dues, it was unfair to deprive him of land as it effectively meant depriving him of his livelihood. Lauding the Chief Minister’s recent announcement that farmers whose land was acquired for industrial or other use would be paid royalties for 33 years, Surjewala said this benefit should be extended to farmers concerned for all times to come. Congress working committee member and spokesperson Satyavrat Chaturvedi said the Congress had always looked after the peasantry’s interests right from its inception. Transport minister Randeep Surjewala said the time had come for enacting laws to protect the rights of farmers as the peasantry had suffered a lot all these years. The transport minister said Haryana had taken the lead in ameliorating the lot of the farmers under the Hooda government. |
Bishnoi releases flag of proposed party
Hisar, September 2 The meeting was the first of a series of such meetings he plans to hold throughout the state in preparation of his father former Chief Minister Bhajan Lal’s proposed ‘janhit’ rally scheduled to be held at Rohtak on December 2. What the light yellow flag symbolised, however, remained a secret as he said he would disclose why he had chosen a yellow flag at the Rohtak rally only. He said his supporters had been consistently demanding that he choose a flag so that they could display it atop their houses. He was, therefore, fulfilling a popular demand by releasing the flag. Bishnoi came down heavily on Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda and Indian National Lok Dal chief Om Prakash Chautala alleging that both did not hesitate to use muscle power in politics. Citing the removal of former MP Ramji Lal’s removal from post of chief of Hisar District Congress (Rural) by Hooda supporters he said his father had never used such tactics in his long political career. Referring to the Gohana violence he said there was no law and order in Haryana and the government’s writ had ceased to run. Former HPCC chief Dharampal Malik and former MP Ramji Lal were among those present on the occasion. Even as Bishnoi released the flag, a group of members of his community organised a havan at the Chhotu Ram Chowk alleging that the Bhajan Lal family had illegally occupied land in Talwandi Rana village near here and at Mukam in Rajasthan. They said under the circumstances Kuldeep Bishnoi should quit as chief of the Bishnoi Sabha. Reacting to the charges Bishnoi said if the allegations were proved true he would quit as Bishnoi Sabha chief. |
