Jalandhar, August 14 In a communiqué to Sonia Gandhi, AICC chief, Sanjay Sehgal, former vice president of the party, has stated that the rules as approved by the Congress working committee and printed in the constitution of the Indian National Congress be followed to elect the right person. This would enable the party to organise itself at the grassroots level, he added. Citing a sub-clause of article 11 (A) of the constitution that all members of the block Congress committee should meet at a fixed time and place for election. Each member should be entitled to vote for one of the candidates for Pradesh Congress Committee, he said. The letter also specifies that the result should be declared by a simple majority. Senior Congress leaders, including Partap Bajwa and Jagmeet Brar are said to be in the fray for the post. |

Phagwara, August 14 The plots were allotted to these families in 1974 under Union Government’s 20 point programme. Although the families tried to get hold of their plots earlier too, but the upper caste communities in the village were creating hindrances for these families to settle there. Even few attempts to construct houses on allotted land were foiled by the villagers by demolishing the under construction houses. The matter was finally sort out by the intervention of Phagwara SDM Amarjit Paul. The SDM made efforts by holding meetings of the concerned parties and finally reached an amicable settlement between the related parties. Giving details about the episode, Phagwara SDM told, “The villagers belonging to other communities were objecting on the allotment of the plots from play ground of the village.” But, now with the consent of both parties, it the plots falling in the region of play ground would be now allotted on an alternative place. Revealing about the latest settlement, SDM said, “Now the plots would be allotted from khasra number 1650 to 1652 in stead of khasra number 1595.” An Ambedkar Bhavan would also be constructed in khasra number 1595 just near the play ground. Assuring about the provision of basic amenities, SDM said, “Both the parties have already signed a written agreement.” |

Phagwara, August 14 While talking to select journalists at Phagwara, Prakash disclosed that he started his journey on skates on November 14, 2005, birthday of Pt Nehru. Maharashtra’s ex-DGP P.C. Pasricha flagged off his journey. He has covered 23 states of the country and would cover 1,22,704 km on skates to register his name in the Guinness Book of World Records. Prakash disclosed that he had received 15 national awards and three gold medals from different governments during his journey. He said he had been given the award of “King” by the Rajasthan government and “King of Kings” by the Uttar Pradesh government. Prakash said he joined a skating club immediately after passing the matriculation examination. He has a dream of world tour on skates, but wants the help of the Union Government in visas and immigration matters. He shared his experiences with citizens of Phagwara. |

Hoshiarpur, August 14 Ajay Kumar of ward No. 7 said last Monday he had
been informed that some unknown person had dug the grave of his
3-day-old female child. She was buried on August 12, 2007 at the
local cremation ground following her death due to some illness. Kumar
along with his family members went to the cremation ground and saw that
head and left arm of the dead body of the baby had been chopped off.

Akhand Bharat Divas celebrated
Hoshiarpur, August 14 A function was organised at Baba Balak Nath temple,Prahlad Nagar, where Puja ceremony was performed and the activists of Bajrang Dal pledged for the reformation of Akhand Bharat. Om Parkash Shastri, chief district unit of VHP, head of Gau Raksha Samiti Gautam Kalia and many others highlighted the glory of Akhand Bharat and said that there was a time when Nepal, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Burma were part of the Akhand
Bharat. But with the passage of time these had been become separate countries. Later, they staged a rally on motorcycles in the main market and raised slogans of Akhand

Hoshiarpur, August 14 Talking to newsmen here on Tuesday, Singh said AISSF would launch a comprehensive drive to spread awareness among the youth about the ill effects of addiction. “The 63rd anniversary of AISSF would be celebrated at Jalandhar on September 13, 2007,” he said.
