Mob attacks demolition squad

Reflecting different moods at a meet-the-press programme at the Press Club here, Sukhbir Badal today denied reports that he was waiting to “become the Chief Minister,” said efforts were on to convince the third front on the candidature of B.S. Shekhawat, promised that urban development would be top priority and claimed that a cricket academy would be set up in Bathinda.

Two cops, scribe booked for extortion

The local police registered a case on the complaint of a local resident, Ajit Pal Singh, against two policemen and a journalist under Sections 7 and 13 (2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act and Sections 384 (punishment for extortion) and 511 of the IPC.

An abandoned girl child found near the sub canal here was adopted by Yogesh Chhabra and his wife Amita of Santa Cruz, Mumbai. Sarpanch of Daulatpura, Kuldeep Singh, had on Thursday morning informed the Khuyiansarwar police and an NGO, Nar Seva Narayan Seva, about the abandoned child.

Minimum wages for safai karamcharis sought

Despite working in squalor, a majority of safai karamcharis are not being covered under the Minimum Wages Act and are getting the lowest monthly wages in the country. Justice L.N. Mittal today issued notice of motion to Punjab over a petition by Dera Sacha Sauda head Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh seeking quashing of the FIR registered against him by the Bathinda police.The petitioner, through his counsel S.K.Garg Narwana, submitted that the FIR was nothing but an abuse of process of law.

Flying academy gets stay

The Division Bench of Justice P. Sathasivam and Justice Rajive Bhalla of the Punjab and Haryana High Court yesterday issued a notice to Punjab for September 27 on the petition by the Birmi Flying Academy, Patiala. The court also stayed the dispossession of the academy located at the Patiala Flying Club.
