Information cell to come up at PTU
Jalandhar, June 21 The proposed cell will not only receive queries forwarded personally but also those reaching through postal service. The students will now no longer have to wait in the lobby of the campus the whole day through. All that they would need to do is to fill their query in a form, take a token number and get delivery of their documents at their postal address. Divulging details of the plan, registrar Sarojini Gautam Sharda said the facility would not only be of help to the students and their parents visiting the campus a number of times to get their documents
but also to the officials who would be relieved of too much of public
dealing daily. “Instead of contacting the right person, the students sometimes enter various branches in the building or would try to strike a deal with the clerks to get their work done quickly. “With the setting up of the cell, this problem too will be solved,” said the PCS officer on deputation at the university. “The lobby of the campus often remains crowded with students who come from far off places, including Delhi, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Jammu, seeking their documents related to detail marks certificate, migration certificate and degrees. In case their work is not over till the evening, they have to stay back or come again sometime later, which I feel, is too much harassment,” Sharda explained. The system is expected to run more or less on the pattern of the Suvidha centre scheme run by various district administrations. While the PTU had planned to set up such a cell in their under-construction building on the Kapurthala road, the registrar wants to make a beginning here so that the officials, employees and the applicants acquire a habit of this kind of working. The registrar did not clearly indicate as to when the window system would start functioning. “We are working on it. There is 40-day counselling for B.Tech, B.Pharmacy and B.Architecture from June 25. The staff will get busy there. We hope to get it started soon after admissions,” she pointed out. |
