Claiming that one person got down from their coach after the train started from Delhi, Rana said the RPF personnel who asked a person to get down of the train on the way when it slowed down also died in the bomb blast. “As I had a little idea about the identity of the suspect I helped the police in making his sketch,” he said. Rana, who was facing difficulty in getting the compensation from the Railways due to requirement of some documents, was helped by Pakistan embassy officials who arranged the documents from Pakistan through fax after which the authorities
released the amount of Rs 5 lakh to him. Cong rally starts debate
Chandigarh, February 23 INLD leaders, led by former Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala, have questioned the rationale behind the rally. They have been describing it as a futile exercise by the ruling party to highlight the "imaginary" achievements of its government. INLD spokesman Pradeep Choudhary, said no development had taken place in the state during the past two years. The INLD is not alone in its criticism of the rally, being held in the home district of its supremo Chautala. It has been supported by MP Kuldeep Bishnoi, son of former Chief Minister Bhajan Lal, who also feels that there is no justification for the rally as the government has failed take the state on the road of progress. Even Pratap Singh Chautala, the estranged brother of the INLD supremo, held a press conference here yesterday in which he said the rally was a wastage of precious resources. On the other hand, Congress leaders supporting Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, have reacted sharply to the statements of anti-rally leaders, inside and outside their party. However, their reaction is more strong against Bishnoi and his father than the INLD leaders. Haryana Congress spokesman Ved Prakash Vidrohi said those Congressmen who were critical of the rally should not forget that their present status was due to the party. Vice-president and general secretary of the media cell of the Congress Rajinder Singh Pammi and Lakhwinder Singh Lakha, respectively, said the large turnout at the rally would be an expression of the people's confidence in the leadership of Hooda. They said the people of Haryana had been a witness to "politics of connivance" for the past 40 years. It was only for the past two years that a new breed of leadership had emerged in the state. The rally would expose the "political fixers" in the state, who had been joining hands while remaining in separate parties for their own vested interests. Convener of the media cell Pawan Jain said the INLD leaders were perturbed by the Congress rally because never in the history of Sirsa, the home district of the Chautalas, had ever hosted a state-level rally. Since these leaders knew that the success of the rally would pose a big challenge to their leadership, they were raising questions about it. |

Intach plans museum at Jal Mahal
Narnaul, February 23 Bhargava’s ancestry goes back to Hemu or Hemchandra, who took the title of Vikramaditya after establishing control over Delhi and Agra following Emperor Humayun’s death. He was defeated by the army led by Akbar and Bairam Khan in the second battle of Panipat in 1526. Hemu fell unconscious after getting hit in his eye by an arrow and that cost him the battle. An unconscious Hemu was captured and brought to Emperor Akbar by Shah Quli Khan. Akbar, then only 14 years old, reportedly severed Hemu’s head and sent it across to Kabul for showing the trophy to the women in his father Humayun’s harem. Bhargava, an entrepreneur by profession, was here as a part of the Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (Intach ) team visiting the city. The members of the Intach team included Ms Komal Anand, a retired IAS officer, who had also held the position of Director General of the Archeology Survey of India. Long after the second battle of Panipat, Akbar, in a bid to make with Hemu’s family, had granted them right over an area near Narnaul. Bhargava’s family had preserved the imperial grant, which was later passed on to the Panipat Museum for showing as an exhibit. Shah Quli Khan, the Mughal army commander, had also settled down at Narnaul after Emperor Akbar made him the Governor over there as a reward for capturing Hemu. Jal Mahal or the lake palace, one of Narnaul’s most beautiful old structures, was built by Shah Quli Khan. His own tomb, got built by Khan 25 years before he died, too, is located near the Jal Mahal. Bhargava and his associates in Intach are now working on a plan to keep the memories of these two old adversaries alive. Hemu’s old haveli still exists at Mahendragarh and Intach is pushing for a museum to be set up in the haveli to showcase Hemu’s life. It also has plans to carve out an area for linking the Jal Mahal and other monuments in its neighbourhood
and make the area a heritage site. Yesterday, the Intach team had a fruitful meeting with the Deputy Commissioner of Narnaul on the subject. |
