Jalandhar, February 11
The Deputy Commissioner cum DRO ,Mr. A.Venu Prasad, has ordered an inquiry into the SAD complaint against Jalandhar Congress MP ,Rana Gurjit Singh, whose wife Rajbans Kaur is trying her luck from Kapurthala.

A committee-headed by ADC (general) would hold the inquiry and submit the report within 24 hours, he added while talking to The Tribune.

In his complaint, the SAD secretary, Dr. Daljeet Singh Cheema , had urged the Election Commission of India to register a criminal case against Rana Gurjit Singh for releasing a fabricated CD to the Press. The party had also demanded that this CD should be banned immediately and action should also be taken against Rana’s wife Rajbans Kaur.

Earlier, Rana had released the CD in front of a section of the media. The CD allegedly displayed the SAD candidate from Kapurthala and a former minister ,Mr. Raghubir Singh ,saying that some family members of SAD supremo Parkash Singh Badal had been involved in corrupt practices.

Mr. Raghubir Singh said that the CD was fabricated. In his complaint, the SAD secretary had alleged that the CD had not been approved by the Election Commission and by releasing it to the Press, Rana had violated the model code of conduct. Dr. Cheema has also sent the copies of the complaint to the Chief Electoral Officer of Punjab and the Election Commission of India.

Jalandhar February 11
Development might be the poll plank of both the SAD-BJP and the Congress, but, for voters the price hike and corruption are still the main issues.

“ We don’t know much about corruption as we have to put in day’s toil to make both ends meet, but, price hike keeps haunting the poor and the lower middle class people. I will try to vote for the candidate, who, will promise to do something concrete to check price hike. As for now, none of major political parties have been successful in containing spiralling prices,” said Ashok, a rickshaw-puller, in the Jalandhar (Central) constituency.

“When I, or for that matter people like me, cannot get any work done without greasing palms of politicians or officials, how we supposed to keep quiet about corruption. Poll promises apart, no one cares about the common man,” rued Mr Rajesh Gupta, the author of “The Art of Dying,” ,a book on the life of a Jalandhar-based businessman.

Mr. Kamlesh Duggal, the Head of the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, Guru Nanak Dev University, is of the view that though, the price hike is an issue, but corruption is not.
