Irani said Punjab had been generally known as a prosperous state but now it was known for the suicides of the farmers only due to anti-peasant policies of the state government.

Reminding the lathi-charge on agitating girl students in Ludhiana, she urged the electorates to vote in favour of the SAD-BJP candidates to oust the government.

The BJP leader said some Congressmen alleged that the Congress candidate from Jalandhar (Central), Mr Tejinder Singh Bittu, had purchased the ticket for Rs 10 crore. If he won, he would indulge in corrupt practices to get back more than Rs 10 crore, she alleged, adding that such candidates should not win for the betterment of the common man.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Kalia said deemed and summary assessment for filing sales tax return would be restarted for the business community if SAD-BJP combine came to power.

The SAD secretary, Mr Daljeet Singh Cheema, councillors Mr Kuldeep Singh Oberoi, Mr Pawan Gupta and a SAD leader, Mr Arun Sharma Pappu, were present on the occasion, among others.

As soon as Irani came here, the crowd, especially women and children, jostled against one another to have a glimpse of Tulsi of the “Ghar-Ghar ki Kahani” serial. Utter mismanagement prevailed on the dais until she left for the Doaba chowk to address another rally.
