2 LeT militants among five killed

Five persons, including two militants of Pakistan-based Lashker-e-Toiba outfit, were killed and five injured while two militants were arrested in Jammu and Kashmir since last night, a police spokesman said today.

The separatist Hurriyat Conference chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, returned here after about a two-week tour abroad during which he visited London, Oslo and Ireland.

2 LeT militants among five killed

Srinagar, December 27
Five persons, including two militants of Pakistan-based Lashker-e-Toiba (Let) outfit, were killed and five injured while two militants were arrested in Jammu and Kashmir since last night, a police spokesman said today.

Two Let militants were killed in an encounter with security forces during search operations at village Kara in Kulhand sector of Doda district today, the spokesman said.

He said two AK rifles and six magazines were recovered from the slain militants, one of whom was identified as Mohammad Ashraf Alias Rahim Ganai, a resident of Dalyas village of Doda.

The spokesman said militants fired upon a private taxi boarded by some army personnel at Rakh-Litter in Pulwama district last evening, killing an army jawan and the driver of the vehicle and causing injuries to two jawans and a tractor driver.

Militants abducted and later shot dead one Mohammad Ramzan Sheikh at village Dehrna in Doda district last night, he said.

He said two persons were injured when militants set off an improvised explosive device on the main road outside Government Degree College in Baramulla district town today.

The injured were hospitalised, the spokesman said.

He said security forces arrested two militants, Mohammad Sadiq Lone and Sajad Ahmad Parray and seized ammunition and grenade launchers from their Lorihama village in Baramulla district.

Security forces recovered 3.5 Kgs explosive material from Gool area of Doda district, the spokesman added. — PTI

Keep Dogra treasure at Kalakendra House

Jammu, December 27
The All-Parties Migrants Coordination Committee (APMCC), blamed the Jammu and Kashmir government for hatching a conspiracy to shift the Dogra rulers artefacts to Kashmir Valley, demanded a judicial probe into the fire at Mubarak Mandi Palace and subsequent shifting of toshkhana, the Dogras’ artefacts, to Civil Secretariat.

Chairman of the APMCC Vinod Pandita, demanded a judicial probe into the fire at the Toshkhana in Mubarak Mandi palace housing prized artefacts worth over Rs 10000 crore.

Mr Pandita has demanded shifting of the prized artefacts of erstwhile Dogra Rulers of Jammu and Kashmir to Kalakendra House.

The committee of Kashmiri Pandits (KPs) yesterday joined hands with political and social organisations, including the BJP, the Shiv Sena, the Dogra Liberation Front (DLF), to protest against the shifting of Maharaja’s treasure.

The APMCC — a conglomeration of 18 political, trade, industry youth and social bodies of displaced pandits said ‘’Kalakendra is the best place to house the Dogra artifacts and should be opened to visitors,’’ he said. Various political parties, including locals, protested outside the Mubarak Mandi complex against the shifting of treasure. — UNI

Mirwaiz back from foreign tour

The separatist Hurriyat Conference chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, returned here after about a two-week tour abroad during which he visited London, Oslo and Ireland.

This had been his "diplomatic mission" to attend various forums to deliberate on the long-pending Kashmir issue, an APHC spokesman here said.

The Mirwaiz would be addressing the Friday congregation at the historic Jamia Masjid the day after and express his views about the tour abroad and deliberations on Kashmir issue.

2 teachers sacked

Jammu, December 27
Two teachers of a primary school in Rajauri district of Jammu and Kashmir have been dismissed from service as they were allegedly enrolled as students of a university.

Services of Murtaza Ahmed and Anwar Hussain, Rehbar-e-Taleem teachers of the primary school in Badhoon village of the district, were terminated by Rajauri chief education officer N A Qazi on finding they were regular students of Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University, an official spokesman said here. A complaint had been lodged with the Director of School Education in Jammu who directed Qazi to probe the case.

The inquiry found that the two were allegedly enrolled as students of BGSB university and had been absent from the school for a long period. — PTI
