ABOHAR
One arrested
: The GRP on Sunday arrested Ravi Taneja son of Surinder Kumar Taneja of Nanak Nagari driving Devinder Kumar Adlakha alias Sanjay (27) to commit suicide by jumping before a train last Sunday. Devinder’s marriage was fixed for December 8. The Punjab Subordinate Services Federation (PSSF) at an emergency meeting on Wednesday urged the police to arrest the person named in the hand-written suicide note. The victim in a note recovered by the police had stated it would be useless to marry, as Ravi won’t allow me to live peacefully.

AMRITSAR
Demanded
: Amritsar Airport should be equipped with category III instrument landing system (ILS) which allows aircraft and pilots to land even when the runway’s visibility was up to 50 metres in winter fog. The Amritsar Vikas Manch, an NGO, demanded in a letter to Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel, AAI Chairman K. Ramalingam.

PSSF resolve
: The Punjab Subordinate Services Federation will participate in December 14 strike called by national unions to oppose anti-employee policies of the Congress government.

ASSAULTED: Bhupinder, a resident of Saidpura village, was injured when he was attacked by six persons on the Mubarikpur-Ramgarh road on Tuesday. He was on his way from Chandigarh to the village when he was stopped attacked with sharp-edged weapons. He was taken to the local Civil Hospital and later to the Government Medical College and Hospital, Sector 32, Chandigarh.

Bhagwat Katha begins: Shri Ganesh Sewa Samiti Sirhind started a week-long Shri Bhagwat Katha, at Sirhind on Monday. The Bhagwat was recited by Swami Sureshwara Nand Ji. Thousands of people attended the opening function. Swami Sureshwara Nand Ji highlighted the importance of the Bhagwat Katha, saying that it gives peace, helps in solving problems, and provides spiritual and mental strength.

contest:
Cancer Cry Care Society, Patiala organised an inter-school paper-reading contest at the local Green Well High School, here, on Monday. Mr Rashpal Singh of Aurobindo School, and Sandeep and Geetika of Green Well High School were adjudged winners. Other students were honoured good ambassadors in spreading the awareness of Cancer. Mr Sudesh Verma, president of the society, distributed the prizes.

FCI strike: The Regional Chairman of Bhartiya Khadya Nigam Karamchari Sangh, Mr S.P. Sood, addressed a meeting at F.C.I. (District Office), Patiala and directed all its members and allies to participate in a strike slated to be held on December 14. The strike is a demand for a pay revision of its employees. Mr Sood added that the entire work force of FCI shall leave no stone unturned in the strike.

Body found
: A body was recovered from the premises of a temple here on Tuesday. The body has not been identified thus far. The police suspect the unidentified person may have died as a result of the severe cold wave last night. The police have registered a case in this regard.

Store robbed: A department store was robbed here, on Monday night. According to Ramesh, the owner of the shop, he found the locks of his shop broken, when he came in the morning. Items worth Rs 25000 have been taken.

Kendriya Vidyalaya No. 2: National adolescent training programme began at Kendriya Vidyalaya No. 2, Ambala Cantt today. School principal Mr Suresh Singh said that 40 teachers of different Kendriya Vidyalaya’s will be imparted training at the five day programme. Different activities will be held through which adolescent problems will be dealt with.

Sheds demolished
: The district administration on Monday demolished four sheds and issued a show cause notice to a house owner to get his plot demarcated within 15 days or face action.The owner has encroached upon the premises of the local Kendriya Vidyalaya.The anti-encroachment drive was undertaken because the Kendriya Vidyalaya Organisation, which run the school, had sent a letter to the district administration to either allot the land for constructing labs and other facilities or it would shift the school to some other location, officials revealed.

SUNDERNAGAR
1 killed in accident
: One person was killed and another seriously injured when a speeding jeep dashed against a motorcycle near the Dhontu bridge on the National Highway No. 21. The deceased has been identified as Mohinder Singh, 23, of Mahadev, Sundernagar, who along with his friend had gone attend the marriage of his brother at Noulakha village but was hit by the jeep coming from the Sundernagar side. The injured has been admitted to a hospital and his condition was stated to be serious. A case has been registered against the driver and the jeep impounded. The body of the accident victim was handed over to family members after a post-mortem examination.
