SGPC chief’s challenge: Mr Avtar Singh, President, SGPC on Tuesday dared Mr Manjit Singh Calcutta to fight election to SGPC post. The SGPC chief said Mr Calcutta was criticising Mr Parkash Singh Badal only after he was removed from the secretaryship for the SGPC. He said Mr Calcutta was playing into the hands of Mr Amarinder Singh and the Congress.

Appeal to CM: Mahant Baldev controlling Ram Tirath shrine, asked on Tuesday Chief Minister, Amarinder Singh, not to interfere in the affairs of the shrine. At a meeting at Durgiana temple leaders of Hindu organisations decided to oppose any move of the Chief Minister to meddle in the case pending before the court. He said the compromise reached on November 6 between Valmikis and two mahants of the shrine had already been rejected.

Rape bid foiled: The Tapa police has registered a case against Roop Singh of Shiana for trying to rape a woman working in her home. Roop Singh entered her house and took her into a room. Woman’s shrieks were heard by neighbours, who gathered there. The police was informed. Roop Singh fled the site. A case was registered against Roop Singh.

2 booked: The Raikot police has registered a case under Sections 285, 336, 338 IPC against Jagdish Kumar, Davinder Singh of Raikot.

PHAGWARA
Man killed: Mr Ram Krishan, of Patel Nagar, here died and his son Chetan was hurt when the car they were travelling in hit a tractor near Khurampur village on Tuesday night. They were returning home from Hoshiarpur. The police recovered the body of Rangeel Singh of Daroli Khurd village from near Bhaghana village. A case under Section 304A/275 of the IPC has been registered.

Youth SAD rally: The Youth Akali Dal at a rally here on Tuesday warned the government for its repression on the Akali Dal workers. Mr Bikramjit Singh Majithia, Mr Harmit Singh Sandhu MLA and Mr Alwinder Pal Singh Pakhoke former SGPC president addressed the rally.

Solar energy park: The government has decided to set up solar energy parks in Bhiwani, Rohtak, Kaithal, Faridabad and Gurgaon. The parks are to be created at Adarsh Mahila College, Bhiwani, Vaish College of Engineering, Rohtak, Haryana College of Engineering and Technology, Kaithal, YMCA Institute of Engineering and Technology, Faridabad and Nav-Jyoti Foundation, Gurgaon.

Lecture: Public prosecutors were apprised of usefulness of forensic science in crime scene investigations, counterfeit currency notes and examination of writings at Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL), Madhuban, here on Tuesday.
