Accused teacher attempts suicide

Chandigarh, November 22
The teacher accused of the alleged molestation of Class XI girl student of GMSSS-16 here reportedly tried to commit suicide by consuming some insecticide at his Dadu Majra Colony residence this afternoon.

Taxi drivers’ complaint on overtime work

Exam failure: 18-yr-old girl ends life
Chandigarh, November 22
Depressed by not being able to clear her matriculation examination, an 18-year-old girl ended her life by consuming some poisonous substance at her Bapu Dham Colony residence here this afternoon. Though no suicide note was recovered, the police, while quoting the family of the girl, ruled out the possibility of any foul play behind the death.

Prof Akhtar Mahmood PU Prof gets J. Mitra award

Prof Akhtar Mahmood, Head of the Department of Biochemistry, Panjab University, has won the 2006 Indian Journal of Gastroenterology - J. Mitra Memorial Award for the best original article carried in the prestigious journal. He will be given a certificate and a cheque for Rs 20,000.

Newborn undergoes rare surgery

Chandigarh, November 22

She is hardly 16-day-old but has become a “blue eyed’ baby of the doctors of the PGI, after undergoing a rare cardio-vascular surgery successfully, here. Just hours after her birth at the PGI, she started turning blue and sick due to blockage of blood vessels carrying blood from heart to lungs. Doctors performed a two-and-a-half hours long surgery upon her and saved the baby from the jaws 
of death.
