Over 700 examined at medical camp

Ludhiana, October 4
More than 700 patients were examined at a free medical check-up camp organised by the Sant Nirankari Mandal at Khanna yesterday. Baba Hardev Singh, the mandal chief, blessed the visiting team of doctors for their gesture to humanity.

A team of doctors from Dr B.L. Kapur Memorial Hospital comprising Dr Wahegurupal Singh, Medical Superintendent, Dr Sham Sunder, Dr Varinder Singh, Dr Kapil, Dr Bhupinder Kaur and Dr Anuradha conducted the check-ups and rendered follow-up advice.

Mr V.D. Sharma, administrator of the hospital, who supervised the camp, said that arrangements had been made for urine test, blood test besides blood sugar level and ECG for diabetics and cardiac patients, respectively, free of cost. Free medicines were also distributed.

MP, Karnataka register easy wins

On the second day of the 20th All-India Postal Hockey Tournament being played at the Prithipal Singh Memorial Astro Turf Stadium at Punjab Agricultural University, here today, the Madhya Pradesh circle and the Karnataka circle scored easy wins.

In the first match of the day, the Karnataka circle toyed with the Jharkhand circle and registered a comfortable 7-0 victory. Adarsh Ganpati scored a hat-trick while Parkash Chalke struck twice. M.K. Nagraj and S. Kumanan found the target once to complete the rout. This was Jharkhand circle’s second defeat. Yesterday, they lost to the Punjab circle 0-19.

The second match was played between the Madhya Pradesh circle and the Uttar Pradesh circle in which the former emerged triumphant (11-0). The main architects of the win were S. Faisal Ali who found the target five times and Mumtazudin who scored twice. Moin-ul-Haq, Asad Kamal, Aftabudin and Sadiq Noor scored one goal each. The Uttar Pradesh circle had lost their opening match yesterday against the Tamil Nadu circle (0-7).

KFC to sponsor Windies team for ICC trophy

KFC today announced its decision to sponsor the West Indies cricket team for the ICC Champions Trophy 2006, which will be held in India from October 7 to November 5.

Mr Sandeep Kohli, Managing Director, Indian sub-continent, Yum! Restaurants International, said, “We are quite excited to sponsor this event.”

The company has also launched a month-long promotion campaign under which customers would get a coupon that entitles them to a lucky draw. Fifty winners of the draw would get an opportunity of having lunch with the West Indies cricket team.
