Mufti optimistic about self-rule proposal
Srinagar, September 23 The Mufti was addressing a public rally in the Noorabad constituency of Anantnag district in south Kashmir today. The PDP patron said the self-rule, “as originally guaranteed to the people of Jammu and Kashmir in the Instrument of Accession”, when fully implemented would result in addressing the basic grievances of the people of the state and meet their aspirations substantially. “The self-rule is not a borrowed idea as is being wrongly projected to create misunderstanding, instead it emanates from the Instrument of Accession and Article 370 of the Constitution,” he asserted. The committee, led by former Deputy Chief Minister Muzaffar Hussain Beigh, would submit the position paper to the Political Affairs Committee. It would be discussed among the Working Group on the Center-State Relations constituted by the Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh. Others in the committee, which was constituted on Thursday, included Mr Ghulam Hassan Mir, Sardar Rangil Singh, Mr Tariq Hameed Karra, Moulvi Iftikhar Hussain Ansari, Mr Ved Mahajan and Mr Murtaza Khan. Addressing the rally, Mr Baig said PDP’s mission was to give peace with honour and dignity to Jammu and Kashmir. |
Terrorists ask women to wear burqa with veil
Jammu, September 23 They said a poster of ultra Alamgeer Hafiz Gazali had come up in Chokiya village of Darhal tehsil in this regard. Giving them one week to comply, Gazali, much feared among area people, said throats of those defying would be slit. Women not wearing ‘burqas’ were un-Islamic, he said in the poster. Security agencies feel that the move would help ultras use veils and ‘burqas’ to attack the security forces and lob grenades and then escape easily. Due to high rate of casualties among their ranks, militants want to use veils and ‘burqas’ to target security forces, sources said. A similar dress code was imposed by Hizb-ul-Mujahideen in 2002.
