BSNL’s open session: The local telephone exchange held an open house session for its consumers here on Saturday. Mr K.K. Sarangal, GM, Sangrur was the chief guest. Divisional Engineer V.K. Mittal said the department had installed eight new towers in Barnala and surrounding areas to improve mobile phone services in rural areas.

Woman held: The police, on a tip-off, arrested Amarjit Kaur, wife of Nirmal Singh of Denowal Khurd (Garhshankar) under Sections 15, 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act on Friday. According to police sources, 10 grams of smack was seized from her.
Blood donated: A blood donation and blood group testing camp was organised by the NSS and NCC wing of the Khalsa College, Garhdiwala on the college complex, on Saturday. Dr Ajay Bagga, in charge, School Health Programme, and Dr M.L. Puri, District Health Officer, Hoshiarpur, made the students aware of the usage and utility of blood donation.
Couple booked: A couple was booked allegedly cheated an innocent person of Rs 1.50 lakh on the pretext of sending his son to a foreign country. According to police sources, Swarn Chand, son of Ganga Ram of Manjhi, alleged that Ashwani Kumar and his wife, Manju Bala, residents of Iswal Nagar, Hoshiarpur took Rs 1.50 lakh for sending his son, Rajesh Kumar, abroad. But they neither sent his son nor returned his money.

Blood donation camp: “Blood donation is a pious and selfless act of charity.” This was stated by Mrs Poonam Gupta, president, Army Wives Welfare Association (AWWA) while inaugurating a blood donation camp organised under the aegis of HQ 21 Sub Area here on Saturday. Wives of Army men and students of Army Institute of Higher Education donated blood. A team of 11 experts from the Armed Forces Transfusion Centre, Delhi, examined the donors.
