Private schools heave sigh of relief
Ludhiana, September 17 The Association of Private Schools, Punjab, said the latest decision of government had saved around 20,000 such schools from closing down in the state. Welcoming the decision, Dr Deepak Manan, president, Association of Private Schools, said: “The latest notification in a Punjabi daily has come after a lot of struggle by managements of private schools. In its earlier notification on March 29, the state government had issued orders of closure of unrecognised/non-affiliated schools with effect from April 1. We had held a state-level convention against the orders on April 9 and were sure that the government would withdraw this decision,” said Dr Manan. It may be mentioned that Ludhiana district has around 2,000 unrecognized/non-affiliated schools and strength of students varied from 200 to 1,000 in each school. “So many children are getting education in our schools. Teachers are being paid by the managements. There is no burden on the government. Also, in 1993 Punjab Education Code, it was decided to associate all these schools with the Punjab School Education Board,” said Dr Manan. Association chairman Balwant Singh Nirman demanded registration of private schools according to the Punjab Government Education Policy, 2002 and the Education Code. “We have been trying hard to get the affiliation but fail when it comes to requirement of stipulated space. Up to Class VIII, they need 1,000 square yards and for Class 10 the requirement is of 3,000 square yards. It is impossible to expand those school premises that are situated in interiors. We qualify all other rules,” claimed Mr Nirman. |
