Pulse polio: Mohali meets 64 pc target on day 1
Mohali, September 17 According to the Civil Surgeon, Dr MS Toor, today’s campaign is part of the supplementary pulse polio campaign specially launched for Fatehgarh Sahib, Ropar and SAS Nagar, following the detection of a polio patient at Kajheri village in Chandigarh. The number of children covered at Dera Bassi were 22,543, at Gharuan 20510, at Bhoothgarh 9099, at Kurali 1897, at Mohali Civil Hospital 10510 and at Kharar 2385. Dr Toor added that out of the total population of children between ages 0 to 5 of 105000, 63.5 per cent had been covered on day one of the campaign. “The rest of the children would be covered during the two days of house-to-house campaign which begins tomorrow. I appeal to all residents to cooperate and come forward and get their children immunised,” said Dr Toor. Other than Health Department officials who supervised the campaign in the, some NGOs and the Lions and Rotary club members also participated in the campaign. As many as 400 fixed booths, 11 mobile and 13 transit teams were used during the campaign today. Dera Bassi: As many as 22,543 children below five years of age were administered polio drops in the Dera Bassi block today. The campaign was inaugurated by the SDM, Mr Narinder Sangha, in the
morning. The Mohali DC, Mr Tejvir Singh, also administered polio drops to children during the day. Dr Ram Kumar, Senior Medical Officer (SMO), informed that 139 teams, including three transit and four mobile teams, were pressed into service. As many as 556 health workers and 28 supervisors were also deputed for the campaign, which will continue for the next two days as a door-to-door campaign, he added. |
Over 1 lakh kids get polio drops
Chandigarh, September 17 The UT Health Department had divided the city into three zones with 461 booths and mobile teams for the purpose. Vaccine drops were also administered to children at the railway station, bus stands and all border areas. Health staff from the Department of Education, Government Medical College, Sector 32, PGIMER, Homeopathic College, Dhanwantri Ayurvedic College, nursing students, senior and junior Residents, ANMs, Anganwari workers and helpers, etc participated in the campaign. Rotary Clubs, Lions Clubs, SURYA, Vishwa Kalayan Sabha, Citizens Awareness Group, Voluntary Health Association, Family Planning Association of India, IRSLA, Servants of People Society, Bal Bhavan, YTTS, NGOs, panches, sarpanches and religious leaders also motivated people to get their children vaccinated. UT Home-cum-Health Secretary Krishna Mohan supervised the campaign in Colony No. 5, Kajheri village and other slum areas of the city. He also administered polio vaccine to some children. He was accompanied by Dr Manjit Singh Bains, Director of Health Services, and other health officials. Pulse Polio teams will also conduct a house-to-house survey on September 18 and 19 to give drops to the children who missed vaccination today. |

Grandparents get tips on heart diseases
Chandigarh, September 17 At a seminar organised by Small Wonders School, Mohali, to celebrate Grandparents Day and International Heart Day, Dr Jaswal spoke on “ Present Day’s Lifestyle and Heart Diseases” and stressed on healthy eating habits, besides precautions to be taken. He also claimed that dyslipidemia, smoking, hypertension and obesity caused heart ailments. Dr Jaswal talked about the emergence of coronary heart diseases in all age groups and the latest techniques that have made cardiac care simpler. The elderly persons cleared their doubts about the disease at an interaction session with the cardiologist. The school staff had arranged certain games and activities for the grandparents of the students. The Principal, Mrs Anu Mahajan, highlighted the importance of diet and exercise in maintaining good health. |
Medicos hold workshop

AIIMS, New Delhi, delivered lectures on different topics at the workshop. Prof. K.K.

Global blood donation camp held
Panchkula, September 17 A total of 102 units of blood were donated at the camp which was managed by the youth wing of the organisation and the Seva Dal devotees of the organisation in association with the Blood Bank, PGI. The district president of the society, Mr Subhash C. Dheer, said camps were organised all over the country in addition to 163 other countries by the organisation. |

HIV-AIDS launched
Chandigarh, September 17 The campaign began with a function at the physics auditorium, Panjab University, under the aegis of the Youth Unites for Valiant Action. Pointing out that cases of HIV in Chandigarh were in hundreds, Mr Jain, who was the guest of honour, said all possible ways should be made to create awareness about it.

Chandigarh, September 17 The award will be given to him at the annual conference of the society to be held in San Diego, USA, from December 1 to December 5. The International League Against Epilepsy (ILAE) and International Bureau had earlier awarded him for his achievements in this field at the International Epilepsy Congress, Paris, 2005. |

Munish 35 (n.o.) and Dharam Deepak 31 (n.o.) were the other contributors for PFC side. In an attempt to chase the target, the CITCO squad was bundled out for 81 runs in just 16 overs. Chandigarh, September 17 They defeated Shishu Niketan, Sector 22, by four wickets in the 25-overs-a-side final. Shivalik won the toss and opted to field first. Shishu Niketan piled up 130 for 8 in 25 overs. Neeraj Joshi played well, topscoring with 42 runs. Hitesh (17), Manwinder Singh (16) and Amit Kohli (15) also chipped in. New speed skating rink
Chandigarh, September 17 The oval skating rink, constructed at a cost of Rs 25 lakh, had an area of 16,700 square feet. The rink would be used for national and international events in speed skating. The rink could be used by the Roller Skating Federation of India, according to school Principal Madhu Behl. An artistic skating performance was demonstrated by skaters, followed by a cultural show by students. |
