The arrest of Gaganjit Singh Barnala has re-focused public attention on the raging issue of VIP brats taking to crimes at the slightest provocation. From Gurkirat Singh, the grandson of slain Punjab CM Beant Singh to Gaganjit Singh, the son of a sitting Governor, the list of high-profile offenders is long and flourishing - one reason being lack of deterrent punishment that helps acquittals, besides highlighting police inadequacy in bringing in substantial evidence.

No early end to power woes

Ever-dwindling power availability in the city and its suburban areas, coupled with unscheduled power cuts, has become the bane of residents. And, as the frequency of power cuts grows with every passing day, water supply has become another casualty, adding to the woes of the people.
Intersections on Shanti Path may be blocked

The Chandigarh Traffic Police is toying with the idea of doing away with intersections on all major roads cutting through the city in an effort to reduce the number of accidents. Once the proposal comes into force, the motorists will be able to turn only from the roundabouts.

The site is still showing the Jammu and Kashmir earthquake of 2005 as the ‘latest’ calamity to strike the country!

Festival concludes with “Ghumayee”
Chandigarh, August 13
Never before has any festival of plays in any regional language elicited such on applause from theatre lovers as the Jammu-based ensample “Natrang”.
The four-day drama festival, Theatre Days, held under the aegis of the Chandigarh Sangeet Natak Akademy concluded today with Dogri play “Ghumayee” providing the grand finale and the director, Balwant Thakur, getting the standing ovation from the crowd.

Kang visits Nada village
Mohali, August 13
Mr Jagmohan Singh Kang, MLA from Morinda and Cabinet minister, Punjab, today, took a round of Nada village in Kharar subdivision to know the ground realities and to take stock of situation, where enforcement staff of the Punjab Urban Development Authority, (PUDA) during a demolition drive recently, had faced widespread protests and stiff resistance from the villagers and general public.
Buffalo rescued
Chandigarh, August 13
Firemen from the Sector 38 fire station launched a two-hour operation to pull out a buffalo from a well at Kajehri village here yesterday evening. The animal, owned by Mr Jasbir, had fallen into the well near the government school in the village.
