Seeking to defend his case in the Volcker controversy, former External Affairs Minister K. Natwar Singh, who has been suspended from the Congress, today cited a communication to the government by Permanent Mission of India (PMI) to the United Nations saying that the UN-appointed Independent Inquiry Committee (IIC) had the inclination to discredit the opponents of US policy.

A mass grave of female foetus was detected today in a vacant plot owned by quacks Pritam Singh, an ex-serviceman and his wife Amarjit Kaur of this town, by a high-level team of state health authorities after it raided the premises of the local Sahib Hospital run by these quacks.

Punjab pay panel today
1300 doctors to be appointed in rural areas
Sangrur, August 9
The Punjab government will constitute a pay commission tomorrow. The government will also appoint 1300 more service providers (doctors) soon to provide better health service to a population of 5000 by a doctor in the rural areas of the state. Octroi will be abolished from September 1 in the state.

The Prime Minister, Dr Manmohan Singh, today unveiled his vision of linking South Asia to Southeast Asia. He made a strong pitch for using BIMSTEC (Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multisectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation) to improve land connectivity by building road and rail network, step up people-to-people contacts through film festivals and make the region a trade hub by innovative Free Trade Area (FTA) agreement.
