Violence at CMC: FIR registered
Ludhiana, August 5
The city police today lodged an FIR against those who resorted to violence in the CMC hospital yesterday and snatched the cameras of media photographers besides beating them up and detaining them in a room.

Mayor inaugurates road development project

The Mayor, Mr Nahar Singh Gill, today initiated the development of the 33-feet road in Sri Chand Colony. Addressing the gathering the Mayor said the road would be recarpeted at a cost of Rs 32 lakh.

A public park in Shastri Nagar area was conveniently converted into a parking lot by the management of BCM Ary Model Senior Secondary School during a function organised by the school today.

BJP leader flays apathy of administration

Senior BJP leader and former state president of the Bhartiya Yuva Janata Morcha, Mr Sukhminderpal Singh Grewal, has criticised the government and the local administration for its apathy towards the families of four persons who were killed while digging a well in Khasi Kallan village.

People advised to avoid soft drinks 
Ludhiana, August 5
The Bharat Jan Gyan Vigyan Jatha (BJGVJ) has expressed concern that even after three years of the report about pesticides in the soft drinks, no steps have been taken either by the government or the companies to bring the pesticides to the permissible limits.

Ban on soft drinks sought
Ludhiana, August 5
Lok Janshakti Party has demanded a ban on the soft drinks in the country as these have been found carrying residues of the pesticides have reportedly found in these. Addressing a press conference here last night, the district president of the party, Mr Maninderpal Singh, said that the party also wanted to put a full stop to the 'mole' controversy as it had caused the loss of precious time in the parliament. He also expressed grave concern over the rising crime in the city.

The Bairagi Maha Mandal, Punjab, will hold district-level meetings all over the state to chalk out programme and mobilise the functionaries for the forthcoming birth anniversary of Baba Banda Singh Bahadur on October 16.

Market panel opposes auction of parking lot
Ludhiana, August 5
A meeting of the Bhadaur House Market Association was held here today. The association has expressed reservations against the proposal of the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation to auction the parking space in the area.

Panel to launch campaign against foeticide
Mandi Ahmedgarh, August 5
The Mata Raj Rajeshwari Mandir Management Committee has decided to launch a campaign against female foeticide. The decision was taken at a meeting held at Ram Mandir here on Saturday. Mr Inderjit Sharma, president, Brahmin Sabha, presided over the meeting.

Lal Singh to address rally today
Samrala, August 5
The Rural and Development Minister, Mr Lal Singh, will address a public rally tomorrow in the new grain market, according to Mr Amrik Singh Dhillon, the local MLA, here today.

DIG (Vigilance) honoured
Mandi Gobindgarh, August 5
The Municipal Council, Mandi Gobindgarh, and the Punjabi Cultural and Sports Federation, jointly organised a function here recently to honour Mr Narinder Pal Singh, DIG, Vigilance Bureau. The function was attended by traders, industrialists, councillors, NGOs and politicians.

14 booked for assault
Jagraon, August 5
As many as 14 persons have been booked on the charge of assault in three separate incidents. In the first incident, Roop Singh, Jit Singh, Sat, Shingara Singh, Soni, Kindi and Harpreet Singh of Rajoana Kalan have been booked by the Sudhar police on the charge of assaulting Basant Singh of the same village with sticks in Basant Singh’s house. Some old dispute is said to be the reason behind the assault.

Ludhiana, August 5
Prerna Verma, a Class XI student of BCM Arya Model Senior Secondary School, Shastri Nagar, and Siddhant Srivastava, a Class XII student of Sacred Heart Senior Secondary School, BRS Nagar, will represent the city at the Horlicks Wiz Team National Finals to be held in November.

Tiny tots of KVM School prepared rakhis in the school here today. The little hands worked in unison and used their imagination in preparing the rakhis. The students also made National Flags and they were told about the importance of National Flag.

The grandeur of tradition came alive when students of Master Tara Singh College for Women here celebrated Teej amidst much gaiety and exuberance. Attired in traditional apparel, students chanted and danced to the tunes of folk songs, ‘swooped’ in the air in florally decked swings, participated in contests that spoke of Punjabiyat.

‘Environment week’ celebrated
Ludhiana, August 5
Students of Ryan International School celebrated ‘Environment Week, with great zest and vigour the week concluded today. Various competitions and activities like: badge making, eco fashion show, plantation, poetry recitation, slogan writing, elocution, debate, declamation, eco-quiz, science-toon, letter writing, poster making, recycling of paper etc were organised. The school was also the venue for the inter-school competitions here today.

A workshop on breast feeding was organised by the Pediatrics Department of SPS Apollo Hospital in collaboration with the ESI Hospital for the implementation of the Initiative Programme of the WHO and UNICEF. The workshop included a series of lectures by various experts and practical training about right methods of breast feeding.
