Lok Adalat
: As many as 70 cases were settled at a Lok Adalat held at Labour Court here on Friday. The Lok Adalat was held under the chairmanship of Mr Ashok Kumar, Presiding Officer Labour Court-cum-Additional District and Sessions Judge.

Vijay Sampark week: The ex-servicemen wing of the SAD will celebrate the last week of July as “Vijay Sampark Week”. Brig K.S. Kahloon (retd), president of the wing, announced the new initiative at a meeting of the local and Gurdaspur wings organised by Col Ajit Singh Valtoha (retd) district president of ex-servicemen wing of the SAD here on Friday.

Factory gutted
: A fire broke out in a box factory at the Industrial Area focal point on Friday resulting in heavy loss. The owner, Mr Palwinder Singh, said goods worth Rs 10 lakh were destroyed in the fire.

HOSHIARPUR
Blood donation camp
: The Police Recruits Training Centre (PRTC) in collaboration with Bhai Ghaniya Ji Charitable Blood Bank organised a blood donation camp in the PRTC complex Jahan Khelan, on Friday. As many as 30 staff members of the centre donated blood.

Foundation stone laid: Mr Dharampal Sabharwal, MP, laid the foundation stone of the Red Cross Vocational Training Centre at Vakilan Bazaar on Thursday. Mr Sabharwal appreciated the District Red Cross Society, for the proposed centre for imparting job-oriented vocational training to poor girls of Hoshiarpur especially of the Kandi area. He announced two instalments of Rs 10 lakh and Rs 9 lakh from the MPLAD fund for the building of the centre.

Arhtiyas hold rally
: To put a check on “increasing activities of farmer bodies against arhtiyas”, a section of commission agents on Friday downed their shutters and held a rally under the banner of Kisan Majdoor Vapari Union here. The union leaders alleged that some farmer leaders were indulging in lookting money and grabbing land.

PNB campaign: In order to extend banking facilities to a large population, Punjab National Bank launched door-to-door campaign in Khuda Lahora and Khuda Jassu villages. The campaign covered 100 per cent families of these two villages for banking facilities by opening PNB Mitra Saving Fund Accounts, said by Mr. B.P, Chopra, General Manager, Haryana Zone. He informed that 270 families and 175 families were covered in these two villages. 

Knowledge Centre: Godrej and Boyce, a pioneer in home and office furniture, has come up with the latest concept of knowledge centre. The concept of this centre is to spread awareness among architects and design community and project customers regarding the company’s expertise in designing, planning, executing the modern offices, rather than being a selling point, said Mr Dhruv Sharma, Senior General Manager, North.

BSNL offer: BSNL, Punjab Circle, has launched a special scheme wherein a customer will get a full talk time of Rs 200 on the activation of New Excel (pre paid) SIM cards. The customers will get Rs 1,200 talk time with 12 months validity.

Blood donation camp
: As many as 24 persons donated blood at a blood donation camp organised by the State Bank Learning Centre here on Saturday. The DGM of the SBI, Ms Usha Nair, inaugurated the camp.

FATEHABAD
Jail for drug trafficker
: The Additional District and Sessions Judge, Mr N.P. Dewatt, on Friday sentenced a poppy husk trafficker to nine months’ imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 2500. The court had earlier held the accused guilty on July 19. The police had arrested Kabul Singh, a resident of Chanak village in Punjab for trafficking of poppy husk under Sections 15, 61 and 85 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.

De-addiction camp: A drug de-addiction camp was organised at Dhand village on Friday. As many as 25 addicts vowed to shun drugs for good. The District Red Cross Society and the District Drug De-addiction and Rehabilitation Centre had organised the camp.

YAMUNANAGAR
4 receive burn injuries
: A woman and her three children sustained burn injuries when an LPG cyclinder caught fire on Friday. The injured were taken to the Civil Hospital from where they were referred to the PGI, Chandigarh.
