AISAD to form Panthic Front

The All-India Shiromani Akali Dal today reiterated its resolve to form a Panthic Front against the Congress and Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) to provide a third alternative to the people of the state, having considered that both have failed to come up to their expectations.

Burglars loot Rs 10 lakh from trader's house
Ludhiana, July 22
Burglars struck at a house of a well known saree trader opposite CFC Public School, Bhai Randhir Singh Nagar last night and decamped with Rs 10 lakh without being noticed at any of the special nakaas laid as part of the night exercise or spotted by any team of the roaming PCR motorcycle squad.

A double postgraduate becomes dowry victim

A double post-graduate in library science and mass communication has allegedly fallen yet another victim to the evil of dowry. Despite spending Rs 5 lakh on her marriage and gifts to her in-laws, the family of alleged dowry victim Neetu was continuously harassed for giving a Santro car as a gift to her husband.

Laddowal police post is now police station

A long-pending demand of 35 villages, mainly along the Sutlej and some on the Hambran road has finally been accepted with the state government upgrading the Laddowal police post as a full fledged police station.

The city police is learnt to have swooped down on one of the four suspects in the sensational double murder case of a jeweller and his wife in their house on Dasaundha Singh road early this month.

Travel agent booked for fraud
Khanna, July 22
Payal police has registered a case under section 420 of IPC against Sukhvinder Singh, son of Karnail Singh, of Sadarpura under police station Sidhwan Bet, Ludhiana, for duping Rachhpal Singh of Raemajra village, Payal, of Rs 13.5 lakhs while promising him to send him abroad.

Killer nabbed
Khanna, July 22
The police claims to have solved the murder of Mohinder Babu (75), a retired TTE of western railway belonging to Gujrat, living here for the last few years and arrested the alleged killer. The district police chief Mr. M F Farooqui said that the arrested person was Hira Lal, son of Babu Lal.

Kang for joint ventures in dairy farming

The Animal Husbandry, Fisheries and Dairy Development Minister, Mr Jagmohan Singh Kang, exhorted young dairy farmers to set up joint ventures for the processing and marketing of the milk and milk products with a view to enhance their income from the dairy farming.

Jasjeet tops BA III
Khanna, July 22
Jasjeet Kaur has brought laurels for Mata Ganga College for Women, Kottan, near Khanna, by bagging first position in five districts of Punjab, Ludhiana, Hoshiarpur, Moga, Muktsar and Ferozpore in BA-III (honours in economics). She secured 72 per cent marks. Doraha college students excel
Doraha, July 22
Students of MA-I of Guru Nanak National College here have performed well in the annual examination conducted by Panjab University, Chandigarh, in April. Eleven MA-I Political Science students secured over 55 per cent marks. Rama Goswami stood first in the college by securing 63.5 per cent marks.

Dr Bakshi joins varsity

Dr M.P.S. Bakshi has joined as Head, Department of Animal Nutrition of Veterinary Science, Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Ludhiana. He has to his credit 88 research publication in international and national journals of repute, 17 articles and technical bulletins, participated in 46 conferences held in India and abroad, got best research paper award, 7 Punjab Science Congress (2004), held at GNDU, Amritsar, in February 2004.

Hospital told to pay compensation
Ludhiana, July 22
District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum has directed the Managing Director of Deepak Hospital, Sarabha Nagar, and Dr Baljit Kaur Bagga of Deepak Hospital to pay compensation of Rs 75,000 to a aggrieved consumer, whose baby had died in their hospital after delivery allegedly due to deficient services.
