District courts go hi-tech
Chandigarh, June 30 Now, these case records are just a click away. The lawyers at the district courts here are being provided with a personal identification number (PIN), a key to an online storehouse of information relating to all case records of any given lawyer. The computerisation of lawyers’ records was undertaken on the directions of the Punjab and Haryana High Court a few months back and the project was handed over to the NIIT, informed a Superintendent with the Judicial Branch. Under the system, a lawyer would have to mention his PIN before filing a case. The Case Filing Branch would then enter the details along with the PIN and maintain subsequent case records accordingly. “The new system streamlines the working of district courts as it will ensure that no lawyer is able to hide facts from the court or clients,” said Mr R.P.S. Chauhan, a district courts lawyer “The move will also curb the tendency to appear for another lawyer in a case and thus check impersonation,” said Mr Vikram Bajaj, a lawyer. The biggest USP of the PIN system is that it will save the court’s precious time in culling out earlier directions or orders concerning a case. There will be fewer adjournments, thus ensuring quick disposal of cases. |
