Mohali, May 27
A rare surgery of interstitial hernia was performed in the Multi-Speciality Wing of Sri Guru Harkrishan Sahib Charitable Eye Hospital Trust, Sohana.

Dr Pankaj Garg, Consultant-Surgeon, operated upon 86-year-old Raj Bahadur from Mohali with a problem of interstitial hernia on the right side of the abdomen.

According to the surgeon very few cases of this type of hernia are reported in the world literature. In interstitial hernia, intestines come between different muscle layers of the abdominal work. What made this case even rarer was that it was a sliding type of hernia. Moreover, doing such a complicated operation on an 86-year-old man was a formidable surgical and anesthetic challenge.

According to the hospital authorities the patient is doing work and moving comfortably after the operation. We will be sending this case for reporting in International Surgical journal.

The Sohana hospital was established in 1995 with ophthalmology wing. It was later expanded into a multi-speciality hospital known for providing treatment at a reasonable cost.

The hospital has all the specialties like Eye, Dental, General Surgery, Gynaecology & Obstetrics, Orthopaedics, Urology, ENT, Skin, Medicine, Psychiatry, ICU and 24-hour emergency services. The Sohana hospital is equipped with the latest equipment for doing such type of complicated surgeries and every day about 500 to 600 patients visit the OPD.
