DEO seeks report in
club employee case
Ludhiana, May 21 The functioning of the club has been mired in controversy with a group of members claiming that the previous Deputy Commissioner, Mr Anurag Verma, had taken action but it was not implemented.
The issue has brought different political groups in the club at loggerheads with members arrayed along opposite lines in support or opposition of the accountant.
At the centre of the issue are the charges that the accountant was being supported or shielded by some influential members and office-bearers.
The DEO, Mr Yash Raj Mehra, told Ludhiana Tribune that he would take action as per the report of the section officer. He, however, added that it looks as a personal complaint and it would have been better if the club management had sought action in the case. Teacher-cum-accountant Davinder Tandon continued to evade the media over the issue when his version was sought. But interestingly, several members and office-bearers of the club called up this correspondent explaining his point of view or to bury the issue. They asserted that it was no wrong for Mr Tandon to work in school during day and in the evening at the club. Mr R.K. Thamman, manager of the club, said he was not aware of the issue as no complaint was made to him. |

This has not been meeting the pay and allowances. There has been no fiscal provision under the plan during 2002-05 with the result that the research activities suffered due to highly inadequate working contingencies. The authorities hope that a corpus of Rs 78.7 crore will generate about Rs 6.3 crore annually and the same would provide reasonable working contingencies for taking up research activities. The centre for excellence in crop biotechnology and improvement will concentrate on application of plant biotechnology and hybrid breeding . In wheat breeding high protein and vitreosity should get more importance. Further breeding programme in maize, soyabean, kabuli gram, groundnut and basmati will be strengthened. Some of the proposals pertaining to the animal sciences will be diverted to the Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University along with the funds. Under the centre of excellence in farm animal biotechnology efforts would be made to develop fresh water fish prawn. The PAU authorities have emphasised that there is urgent need to diversify paddy-wheat cropping system. Because of this system there is
occurrence of multitude of ecological (depleting water table, deterioration of soil health, deficiency of micronutrient in soil crop and animals, pollution of air and water) and economic problems. There is need to replace paddy with other crops requiring less water. The PAU authorities have further emphasised that there is need for a long- term research strategy for sustaining the tempo of Punjab agriculture.
