Missing jeweller found murdered

The jeweller disappearance case has turned into a bone-chilling murder tale and a major gold heist, with the police recovering the jeweller’s body from near Neelon Canal, Chamkaur Sahib, last midnight.

2 servants held on charge of killing employer
Ludhiana, May 13
The Division No. 7 police has caught two alleged murderers of a trader who was found dead in his residence in Industrial Area near Samrala Chowk. The accused have been identified as Madhav, alias Chottu and Moti alias Bahadur. The police has recovered Rs 85, 000 cash from them. They were caught while they were fleeing the state.

People want bypass proposal reviewed
Mandi Ahmedgarh, May 13
Fearing desertion of the local town on account of a proposed bypass at Pohir village on the left side of the existing carriageway, various organisations of the area have urged the authorities of the Punjab Roads and Bridges Development Board to review the proposed plan.

Scrap explosives to be defused after monsoon
Ludhiana, May 14
The explosives lying on the premises of the freight container depot (dry port) of the Punjab Warehousing Corporation in the focal point area, Dhandari, here will be defused after the monsoon. A decision to this effect was taken today at a meeting of the civil and Army authorities held with Mr Ashok Kumar Gupta, Deputy Commissioner, in the chair.

1 killed in accident
Khanna, May 13
An Indica car overturned after its driver lost control over it, resulting in the death of one person on the G.T. Road near police post Kot today. According to information, the car was coming from Alwar and bound for Jalandhar. A stray dog appeared on the road near the police post. In order to avert the accident, the driver applied the brakes but the vehicle steered off the road and fell into a pit.

PAU scientist gets ICAR professorship

PAU Senior Soil Chemist, Dr Bijay Singh, has been selected as Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) National Professor. He has been selected for this honour on account of his outstanding research achievements. As ICAR National Professor, Dr Singh will work on plant need-based nitrogen management in rice and wheat. His selection has brought laurel to the university as there are only 10 National Professors in agricultural sciences in the country.

There could not have been a more severe punishment for 10-year-old students of Aanchal Public School, Sector 41. As a punishment for not learning their science lessons, nine students of Class V were made to march in the Badheri market around noon yesterday, and later stand there for an hour.

Tips to save skin from sun

Soaring mercury takes a toll on the body by way of varied health problems but it is the skin which bears the maximum brunt of the scorching sun. Persistent exposure to sun causes damage to the skin and may cause skin cancer. At least 90 per cent of skin cancers result from long-term exposure to UV radiation from the sun. Sunlight is also responsible for wrinkles, blotching, drying, and leathering of the skin. The best defence is to limit time in the sun and protection when moving outdoors.

Hosts Ludhiana registered an emphatic eight-wicket victory over Muktsar in their opening encounter on the second day of the first edition of the Punjab State Inter-District Twenty-Twenty Cricket Tournament being played at the Punjab Agricultural University campus ground here today.
