Teething troubles for cab service

The new taxi service introduced earlier this week is not being allowed to enter either Mohali or Panchkula. The cabs are not plying to the adjoining townships, despite the announcements about proper connectivity with neighbouring towns before the commencement of the service.

A directive issued by the Akal Takht Jatehdar regarding the installation of Nishan Sahib and Parkash of Guru Granth Sahib at gurdwaras, which have come up on encroached land, could go against such religious structures in the city.

Fast food joints flout Motor Vehicle Act
Chandigarh, May 13
Several food joints in the region are flouting the Motor Vehicle Act with impunity, besides denying the state exchequer of lakhs if not crores of rupees annually by buying and registering scooters for ‘personal use’ and using these ‘commercially’ after modifying, that is not permitted legally. The modification by fitting ‘heat entrapping’ boxes for carrying steaming hot food to the door steps of customers not only violates the law, but also poses a grave threat to those on the roads by making these scooters accident prone.

EO hears residents’ woes
Panchkula, May 13
Over 100 citizens, led by the area municipal councillors — Kuljit Waraich, Renuka Rai Walia — and Deepak Dhiman, president, residents welfare association of Sector 4, Mansa Devi Complex, participated in an open ‘darbar’ held at the community centre here today.

An audio cassette ‘Asin Uddey Prindey’ was released by the Punjab Chief Minister, Capt Amarinder Singh, and the Deputy Chief Minister, Ms Rajinder Kaur Bhattal, at Punjab Bhavan, Chandigarh, on Saturday. The songs have been written by Sham Singh of the Punjabi Tribune and sung by R.D. Kalley and Mrs Komal Chugh.

Entrance test for medical courses today

Elaborate arrangements have been made for the Postgraduate Entrance Test being conducted for medical courses by Baba Farid University of Health Sciences tomorrow. About 1,400 candidates are expected to sit in the examination.

C-DAC exam postponed

The written exam to be conducted by the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC), Mohali, for the recruitment of computer teachers for Punjab Government schools to be conducted tomorrow, has been postponed. The new dates will be announced soon, a press note said. — TNS

BCA-II results declared

The result of BCA-II examination, conducted by Panjab University in April, has been declared. The result will be available on the university website www.puchd.ac.in after 12 noon tomorrow. No telephonic enquiry will be entertained, according to a press note issued by the Controller of Examinations, PU.
