Around 100 more seats available at PEC now
Chandigarh, January 6
The Punjab Engineering College (PEC) here would admit over a hundred students for various bachelor degrees from the coming academic session to allow for attrition during the course of admission. This proposal was passed by the Board of Governors during its meeting held today.

UT to network health care facilities

The Chandigarh Administration has initiated process for network linking of the primary, secondary and tertiary healthcare assets in the city to facilitate exchange of data regarding availability of medical resources, analysis of health indicators, forecasting and efficient response in emergencies. Automated thermal sights for anti-aircraft guns
Chandigarh, January 6
The Army’s anti-aircraft gunners will no longer have to rely solely on their marksmanship and human judgment to shoot down enemy aircraft. Anti-aircraft guns in the Army’s inventory are being equipped with thermal-imaging sights for automated targeting.

Centralised registration facility for disabled sought

In a set of vital recommendations made during the final session of the continuing rehabilitation education programme, the Rehabilitation Council of India has suggested a centralised registration facility for the disabled and cancellation of the licence of all those schools which refuse admission to disabled children on the pretext of lack of infrastructure.

Flights resumed; train for NR clerical exam

Flights to the city resumed service today. Jet Airways and Air Deccan resumed operations today after a gap of two days. Indian Airlines, meanwhile, continued to be grounded for a third day in a now. According to sources the Indian Airline flight has been cancelled for tomorrow also “in anticipation of bad weather.”

Bootleggers injure 2 cops
Chandigarh, January 6
Members of a special investigating team of the Chandigarh Police were assaulted by henchmen of a liquor smuggler at Hallo Majra village this evening. The police team had gone there on a tip-off that liquor was being sold illegally. During the raid, 18 bottles of liquor were seized.
