Licences issued
: The local administration organised a camp for issuing driving licences to applicants at Ghiyala village on Friday. Mr Amarjit Pal, SDM, who is the licensing authority, said 275 licences were issued at the camp.

Effigy burnt: Activists of the Shiv Sena under the leadership of Mr Surinder Singh burnt the effigy of Ms Brinda Karat of the CPM for her allegations against Swami Ramdev. Mr Singh said Ms Karat had levelled allegations under pressure from multinational companies.

Elected: The following have been elected office-bearers of the District Taxation Bar, Patiala: president — Mr H.R. Saldi; vice-presidents — Rajesh Malhotra and Mr Ajay Alipuria; general secretary — Mr K.K. Singla; secretary — Mr M.L. Thakur; and auditor — Mr Pradeep Singla.

Killed
: Lakhwinder Singh (30) of Marhana village was crushed under a mini bus near Thakkarkaura village near Patti on Thursday night. The Patti police has registered a case under Sections 279, 304A of the IPC against the driver of the bus.

Office opened: Vedanta Acharya Swami Chetna Nandji Maharaj Bhurewale on Friday inaugurated BN Overseas-educational services here. The company also has offices in Jalandhar and Ludhiana. Punjab Co-Operative Minister Jasjeet Singh Randhawa was chief guest on the occasion.

SONEPAT
Duped
: A resident of Jasorkheri village in Jhajjar district was reportedly duped of currency notes and gold ornaments worth several thousands of rupees by two tricksters at Kharkhauda town, 19 km from here, on Friday. According to a report, the aggrieved man gave the currency notes and gold ornaments to the tricksters on the pretext that the amount and the ornaments would be doubled by them.

Theft: Thieves are reported to have broken the shutters of a general store on the Gohana road here on Thursday night and decamped with ornaments and other goods worth about Rs 35,000, according to a complaint filed by Mr Viney Kumar.

Assaulted: Mr Sunil, shopkeeper, was allegedly attacked with knives and iron rods by a youth with the help of his wife and mother at Bhatgaon village, about 15 km from here, on Friday. According to a report, the youth was hospitalised and stated to be out of danger. The police has registered the case against the alleged assailants who were identified as Devinder, his wife Poonam and mother Chander Kanta.

Minor raped: A minor girl was allegedly raped by a youth, said to be her relative, when she was alone at her house at Panchi Jatan village about 15 km from here, on Thursday night. According to police sources the youth was identified as Manoj of Baghpat (UP) and he was living near her house in rented room.
