Kalam-farmer interaction “stage managed”

Though the farmers were eager to pour their hearts out to the President during their much-awaited interaction, it turned out to be a “stage-managed show” where only a couple of them spoke about the success of the village cluster adoption project.

Punjab to set up thermal plant in Chhattisgarh
Chandigarh, December 10
The Indian bus that will operate between Amritsar and Lahore has been named as Punj-Ab Express. A senior officer of Punjab Government disclosed this yesterday. This issue was discussed with the Union Government a day before. The name the Pakistan Government will give to its bus that will ply between Lahore and Amritsar is not known yet.

History will be created tomorrow as after a gap of more than five decades the two Punjabs will be connected through a regular bus service, to be formally launched on December 23, for which a dry run will be conducted tomorrow.

The BKU, however, limited the three-day bandh call to two days realising that residents were being harassed for no fault of theirs.

Sukhbir questions Natwar’s Patiala retreat

The Shiromani Akali Dal today alleged that the mysterious and hush-hush retreat of former Union Minister for External Affairs K. Natwar Singh to the New Moti Bagh Residence of Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh had raised fresh issues about a nexus between the two brothers-in-law in the oil-for-food scam.

Student’s death: police inaction alleged; dharna held

Residents of Taragarh village today held a dharna in front of the SP office, here to protest against the police failure to register an FIR in the case of mysterious death of Baghwan Singh, a class X student of Adarsh Model School. The wailing handicapped father of the deceased, Mr Lakshaman Dass, while addressing the protestors alleged that his son had been murdered.

Veterinary officer caught taking bribe
Patiala, December 10
In a significant development which could expose the hollowness of anti-corruption drive launched by Capt Amarinder Singh’s government in Punjab, Dr Bhupesh Kumar Goyal, a Veterinary officer of Samana, was today caught red-handed while taking a bribe of Rs 1,000 from Mr Mann Singh in lieu of issuing him a certificate in connection with the death of his buffalo insured with an insurance company.

Chemical experts have confirmed after tests that Mrs Jatinder Kaur, wife of Mr Yadvinder Singh, had died because of poisoning.
