AIDS awareness rally by Army men
Chandigarh, November 30 The AIDS Control Organisation of Armed Forces Medical Services is organising the rally in collaboration with National AIDS Control Organisation and TVS Motor Company as a part of the 48th biennial conference and 9th Army Medical Corps reunion. A total of 11 officers from the three services, led by Lieut-Col Suresh Himale, are participating in the rally. The motto of the rally is “Know AIDS for no AIDS”. It has since already travelled through Varanasi, Ranchi, Kolkata, Sambhalpur, Nagpur, Pune, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Jaipur, Bikaner and
Ferozepore. |
Karnataka gain two points
Chandigarh, November 30 In reply to Karnataka’s first innings total of 335, Maharashtra could pile up only 175 runs in 78 overs after sticking to the pitch for 283 minutes. Harshad Kadiwake topscored for the side with 61 runs with the help of seven fours before being bowled by Appana. Sunil N. Raju of Karnataka claimed four wickets for 70 runs while K.P. Appanna took two for 35. Maharashtra declared their first innings at 335 for 6, which included a fine batting display by Sunil K. Jain who made 129 runs off 240 balls with 18 fours. Other notable contributors were tailenders Amit Verma and Kunal Kapoor who made 87 off 66 balls and 25 off 64 balls, respectively. Chasing the target, Maharashtra were at 175 for 7 in 78 overs at close of play. Brief scores: Maharashtra (1 st innings): 179 all out in 88.4 overs. Karnataka (1 st innings): 335 for 6. S. Bisht only local lad in Haryana team
Mohali, November 30 The Haryana team, which has won the Ranji Trophy in Plate
group last season, moved into the Elite group for the first time from
the Plate group. Bisht made his debut in first class cricket, last
season and made 383 runs with an average of 40 runs. He scored a century
(112) against Rajasthan besides two half centuries against Goa and
Services. Bisht, who termed cover drives and straight drives as his
forte, comes as an opener. In the first match of the ongoing Ranji
Trophy against Uttar Pradesh at Kanpur last week, he made 30 runs in the
first innings and also went cheaply for just 12 in the second innings.
However, he is not disappointed with his dismal performance. Bisht,
who stays in Mani Majra, has played four Ranji matches and four one
dayers in the domestic circuit for Haryana Ranji team. In the one-day
format he has scored 76 against Punjab. Hailing from Nainital,
Uttaranchal, Bisht moved to Chandigarh to play cricket. He did his
schooling from Government Model School, Sector 20 and graduation from S
D College, Sector 32. |

Irina clinches trophy for sixth time
Chandigarh, November 30 The M.A. Psychology student of DAV College, Sector 10, Irina bagged the trophy for the sixth time with a gross score of 149 over 36 holes (74, 75). Parnita Garewal finished runner-up with a score of 159 (83, 76 ). Sixteen-year-old Preetinder Kaur won the prize for the best nett score of 147 (75, 72) four shots ahead of Tina Jain who finished runner-up with a nett score of 151 (75, 76 ). Founder member of the Chandigarh Ladies Section, Mrs Inder S.D. Singh, gave away the prizes. |
A novel fun game
Chandigarh, November 30 Shelja, sports instructor at the school, said they had specified days for this activity and once children were invited to the activity room for this exercise, they remained engrossed in it. Ms Soni said fun games were essential for children in this age group so that by the time they matured, they could stick to serious sports. |
Cycle rally for healthy hearts
Chandigarh, November 30 The rally was flagged off from SD Public School and it passed through Sectors 32, 33, 34, 35 and 36. The participants were given refreshments at the Fragrance Garden. The cycle rally aims to urge people to be more active and increase awareness about physical activity. |
