All city roads lead to Leisure Valley, it appeared so at least today. There was heavy rush on the inaugural day of the two-day Chandigarh Carnival. Fun and frolic marked the entire day of colourful activity.

The Chandigarh Administration’s decision to revive the monorail project has been hailed by city residents. Routine traffic jams in the city, which has the highest vehicular density in the country, will be a thing of the past if the ambitious project sees the light of the day, residents feel. 21-year-old cyclist killed
Chandigarh, November 26
A cyclist was killed after a roadways bus hit him in the Industrial Area early this morning. The victim has been identified as 21-year-old Satish Kumar of Colony Number 4.

48-year-old found murdered
Mohali, November 26
A resident of Sohana village was allegedly murdered and his body was thrown near a gurdwara after committing the crime. The body of Sukhdev Singh (48), who had left his house on November 24, was seen floating in a water body near Gurdwara Singh Shaheedan by some resident of the village in the morning today.

Vice-Chancellor of Panjab University and Honorary Colonel of the National Cadet Corps, Prof K N Pathak, today suggested that NCC be made mandatory for two years for all students at the graduation level.

Model advises aspirants not to trust all in modelling

Confindent about herself and satisfied with her success, even if that means having missed bringing home the Miss Earth title last month. Niharika Singh, Miss India Earth 2005, is all set to realise her dreams and much more in the coming years. In town for the forthcoming annual passing-out fashion show of the National Institute of Fashion Design tomorrow evening at Leisure Valley, Nharika gets chatting to The Tribune about her work and ambitions. “It is unfair to demand that a Miss India should always be the one to win a crown at the international pageants, after all the whole world is beautiful and women from all these countries are equally stunning,” she stated in response to the recent misses at the international pageants abroad.

Punjab retain team championship trophy
Panchkula, November 26
Defending champions Punjab kept its supremacy when they beat hosts Haryana 3-1 to clinch the badminton team championship title in the 32nd All-India Electricity Boards Badminton Tournament being played here at the Tau Devi Lal Sports Complex in Sector 3, Panchkula, today.

Shasya adjudged ‘player of the year’

Shasya Shekhar Jamwal won the ‘player of the year’ title in the first annual sports meet of Kids ‘R’ Kids’ school held on the school premises, here today. Hurdles, sack race, 3-legged race, frog race, cycle race and ball relay were the main events. The chief guest, Mr V.K. Bhardwaj, Chief Engineer, Chandigarh, gave away the prizes to the winners.
