Recovery of human skull part causes panic

Panic gripped the Civil Hospital staff and patients today with the recovery of the upper part of a human skull, suspected to be over five years old, from an abandoned plot near the mortuary of the hospital today morning.

Police for action against Home Guard jawan
Mandi Ahmedgarh, November 23
The district Sangrur police has written to the Punjab Home Guards Department to take action against a constable whose alleged misbehavior had put the local police in an embarrassing position yesterday. An irate mob had demonstrated against the local police after a driver was allegedly slapped by the said constable.

82 complaints redressed at police camps
Jagraon, November 23
With an objective to provide speedy justice to complainants and decrease the burden of litigation on the people and the police, the Jagraon police organised Grievance-Redressal Camps simultaneously in three subdivisions, including Jagraon, Raikot and Mullanpur Dakha, today.

Bihar result expression of democracy: BJP

The BJP has congratulated the people of Bihar for giving a clear majority to the NDA combine, comprising BJP and Janata Dal (U), in the Assembly elections and rejecting the “jungle-raj” of Union Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav and his wife Rabri Devi.

City dharamshala at Chintpurni to be expanded

The Ludhiana dharamshala at Mata Chitpurni shrine in Himachal will have six new rooms and a hall and the ongoing construction work will be completed by February 2006 at a cost of Rs 1 crore.

A cycle rally was organised to celebrate World heritage day by A S College Khanna from Khanna to Ropar today. The rally was organised to motivate the public about environment issues, check pollution and to create awareness about the benefits of cycling.

The dharna by CPM and CITU against the Centre and state government policies entered its third day here today. IT surveys on cycle units yield Rs 25 lakh tax 
Ludhiana, November 23
Income Tax surveys conducted by teams of officials at a couple of cycle parts manufacturing and export units owned by the same family in Dhandari Kalan here, had yielded a concealed income of around Rs 80 lakh. The owners had agreed to deposit an additional tax of little more than Rs 25 lakh.

The DIG (Ludhiana range), Mr Parag Jain, today organised a meeting of bank officials of the district with regard to security. More than 50 bank officials attended the meeting.

PAU to give boost to banana cultivation
Ludhiana, November 23
In a bid to boost fruit cultivation in the state, Punjab Agricultural University is making efforts to promote cultivation of bananas in the state. Although banana is an important fruit crop of tropical regions and cannot be successfully grown in sub-tropical areas like Punjab, yet farmers have tried to grow this crop here.

Unplanned B.Ed colleges compromise with standards

The state government seems to have compromised with the standard of higher education by providing a clean chit to several unplanned BEd. Sore over the apathetic attitude of the government towards the state of higher education, the educationists feel that private players would not only charge exorbitant fee from the students but will exploit the new teachers, too.

Blood donated for thalassaemic kids
Ludhiana, November 23
A blood donation camp for thalassaemic children was organised by the NSS and NCC units of Guru Nanak Girls College here today. The camp was held in collaboration with the Department of Transfusion Medicine, Dayanand Medical College and Hospital, Ludhiana.

The Department of Business Management, LCET, Katani Kalan, organised a seminar on stress management in organisational development and managing assets in organisations. Mr D. Basketball tournament begins

The XIVth Ludhiana Sahodaya Schools Basketball Tournament began at BCM Senior Secondary School, Chandigarh Road branch, here today. Mr R. S. Thukral, Divisional Manager, Indusind Bank, inaugurated the three-day meet in which 28 teams in the age groups of u-14 and u-19 years are taking part. Mr S. D. Kalia, Principal of the host school, welcomed the participants and highlighted the importance of sports.
