Sikandar Singh and his wife Balwinder Kaur, hailing from Uchha Boharwala village near Sultanpur Lodhi, have been running from pillar to post get justice for their 17-year-old minor daughter, who was kidnapped and then allegedly raped by three youngsters of the same village on October 3. The victim belongs to the Dalit community.

Levelling allegations against the Sultanpur Lodhi police, parents of the victim said that instead of booking the tormentors under rape charges, the police officials were asking them to find their whereabouts and then inform the police.

Narrating their woes, Balwinder Kaur, accompanied by her daughter, said she along with her two daughters were heading towards nearby fields for easing themselves on the evening of October 3 when five youngsters kidnapped her 17-year-old daughter despite all resistance. “We went to Sultanpur Lodhi police station and lodged a complaint. The police recovered our daughter from the dera of Jindar, and he along with one of his associates Kalu was arrested.”

Balwinder Kaur said her daughter was subjected to medical examination, the repot for which is still awaited. She also identified three of the alleged rapists— Billa, Chaina and Jinder—in a statement to the police.

But the police refused to register a case of rape against the three, she added. “When we ask the police to arrest the accused, they try to dilly-dally the matter.”

Meanwhile, Harpreet Singh, DSP at Sultanpur Lodhi, said a case of kidnapping with the aim to rape has been registered on the basis of the statement made by the mother of the victim and if the medical report confirms sexual abuse, the accused would be booked for rape.

He said the police was on the lookout for the remaining accused.
