25 fresh dengue cases reported in hospitals

There seems to be no respite from dengue for the city population as some 25 fresh cases reported in the local hospitals during the past 24 hours.

Man gets life term for nurse’s murder
Ludhiana, October 28
The Sessions Judge, Mr Harbans Lal, has sentenced Saurav, alias Manu, a resident of Bankwali Gali, near Clock Tower, Ludhiana, on the charges of murdering a nurse, Sharda Sharma of New Sunder Nagar, Mundian Kalan, in January 2004.

Travel agent rescued

The local police has solved the kidnapping case of a travel agent of SalemTabri in less than 12 hours by arresting two out of the five accused besides freeing the kidnapped person. The accused allegedly fired shots at the police, when he was intercepted near Rajpura in Patiala district.

Ludhiana, October 28
A former minister and senior Akali leader, Mr Mahesh Inder Singh Grewal, today said his party was quite skeptical about the government of India referring the inquiry against senior Congress leaders involved in the 1984 anti-Sikh riots in Delhi to the CBI.

PSEB flayed for erratic power supply
Ludhiana, October 28
The BKU has criticised the PSEB for inadequate and erratic power supply to the agriculture sector. In a statement here today, the BKU president, Mr Ajmer Singh Lakhowal, and the general secretary, Mr Manjit Singh Kadian, claimed that rural feeders were getting supply just for two to three hours in a day.

Vishwakarma celebrations on November 2

A state-level function will be organised on November 2 to celebrate Parkash Ustav of Lord Vishwakarma at Guru Nanak Bhavan on November 2. The Chief Minister, Capt Amarinder Singh, would be the chief guest and Mr Shamsher Singh Dullo, President, PPCC, would preside over the function.
