Violence triggers fresh migration
Jammu, October 25 It is learnt that the migration was on in the past couple of days when terrorists struck at various places in these districts. The highest number of migrations have been reported from the border district of Rajouri where terrorists were on a killing spree. They have targeted Hindu families around the Buddhal town. A few migrations have also been reported from the Gool and Khahs areas. The migration was not confined to Hindus, but many Muslims have also moved to safer places. The massacre of 10 persons belonging to two Hindu families near Buddhal has triggered fresh migration. Although Buddhal was also an unsafe place as terrorists have been striking there at their will residents of villages around there have started migrating to the town. There is general complaint that the state government has hardly done anything to infuse a sense of security among the scared residents of these villages. Relief department was also not providing any sort of help to the affected families. Initially, a large number of families from the three districts had migrated here when terrorism started in the state in 1989. However, allegations of the state government discriminating between them and the migrants from the Kashmir valley went unheard at the highest level. The migrants from these districts were camping on the banks of the river Tawi in huts as the state government refused to provide them any accommodation or facilities as were being given to the migrants of the valley. The atmosphere was emotionally surcharged today — the tenth day of the 10 massacred persons. A former minister and BJP leader, Prof. Chaman Lal Gupta, who participated in the rites of those massacred, accused the state government of having failed to contain terrorism. He alleged that the state government was more worried about providing relief and compensation to the kin of terrorists who get killed during encounters with security forces and has no policy to rehabilitate the victims of militancy. |
IAF transports bulldozer to speed up road repair
Srinagar, October 25 Heavy landslides on NH-1A had cut off the road link after Uri due to which the entire relief operations for the earthquake victims have been disrupted. The Border Roads decided to tackle the landslides from both the ends to speed up the road clearing process. But there was no bulldozer at the western end Hence, they requested the IAF to help in transporting the bulldozer by air. In an innovative manner, two bulldozers were dismantled thereafter each part was tied under slung to the MI-17 Helicopter and airlifted by carrying out sorties from Uri to Uroosa which is one of the most affected and unapproachable village near LoC. The availability of these bulldozers has been of immense help to the road-clearing parties and they have been successful in connecting these villages to the rest of the country, the defence spokesman said. |
