High drama in courts complex

Armed husband held for bid to kidnap estranged wife
Panchkula, October 25
Tension prevailed in the District Courts complex today after armed assailants allegedly tried to kidnap a woman from outside the courts complex, while she had come here to appear in a case filed against her by her estranged husband.

Body of Chandigarh Club employee found in Sukhna
Chandigarh, October 25
A bloated body of a 29-year-old store supervisor of the Chandigarh Club was found floating in the Sukhna Lake early this morning. After conducting the preliminary inquiries, the police said the victim might have jumped to death about four days ago.

Chandigarh is all set to have a new government hospital in Sector 53. Preliminary ground work in this regard has been cleared by the office of the architect and forwarded to the higher authorities for a formal nod.

Cops, PCA lock horns

Though the Met Department did not have any explanation for this weather phenomenon, they said it normally occurred before the onset of the winter season. Two snatching incidents in city

Snatchers continue to decamp with valuables, and disturb the peace of mind of residents. In past 24 hours at least two incidents of snatching were reported to the Chandigarh Police from different parts of the city. In both cases, motorcyclists were involved.

Labourer falls in treatment plant, dies
Chandigarh, October 25
A labourer fell in a water treatment plant near Raipur Kalan village on Sunday. He died in hospital on Monday night. The victim, in his late-twenties, has been identified as Ravinder Kumar. Besides, the theft of a handbag from a car was reported to the local police during the past 24 hours.

Scooter set on fire in Sector 11
Panchkula, October 25
Three miscreants sprinkled petrol on a scooter parked in Sector 11 and set it on fire. The incident took place at around 8.30 p.m., when Mr Sandeep Kumar had parked his scooter (Honda Activa) outside his house which is under construction.

Parachute Regiment sets new national record
Chandigarh, October 25
The Parachute Regiment has set a new national record by not only flying a para-motor non-stop for 145 km between Tirichy and Madurai airports but also flying three paramotors in a formation for 494 km across Tamil Nadu in May this year. The regiment is now attempting a never before adventure of flying five paramotors from the hills of Udhampur in Kashmir to the coasts of Kanyakumari, covering about 4,000 km in 35 days.

Chandigarh, Delhi set for title clash
Chandigarh, October 25
Chandigarh will face Delhi in the final of 21st Zonal Volleyball Tournament of the LIC of India tomorrow. The tournament is being held at Panjab University sports ground in which 12 teams of different divisions of the North Zone of the LIC of India were participating.

Ban orders for restaurants, discos
Chandigarh, October 25
The Chandigarh Administration has banned the owners of the restaurants, pubs, discos and clubs for hawking goods by the road sides and on the public places between 1.00 am and 4.30 am in the city for a period of 60 days, an official press statement said here today.
