Mr Simranjit Singh, president, SAD (A), has urged the Governments of India and Pakistan to deal the cases of death sentences of Sarabjit Singh by the Pakistan government and those of Mohamad Afzal and Devinder Singh Bhullar, hardliners convicted in separate cases in India, as per the regulations under the international law by following the quid pro quo policy.

Organisers having made all preparations for Chhapar Mela, the inclement weather may serve as a major factor in turning it was a low-key affair this year. Issue notice to SHO, says court

Ms Ravi Inder Kaur, Civil Judge (Junior Division), has ordered the issuance of summons to the SHO of the Model Town police station, Mr Rajesh Sharma, the Collector of Ludhiana and the State government, returnable by November 21, in a petition seeking damages to the tune of Rs 4 lakh for allegedly defaming a person.

MCPI opposes statehood for Chandigarh
Ludhiana, September 15
Mr Jagjit Singh Lyallpuri, general-secretary of the Marxist Communist Party of India, and Mr Kuldip Singh, state secretary of the MCPI in a joint statement here today opposed the move of separate Assembly and statehood for Chandigarh and described it as a sinister design against Punjab by both the Congress and the BJP.
