One more probe for manhole victim’s case

Providing a ray of hope to an alleged victim of Ludhiana Municipal Corporation’s negligence, who had become paralysed after falling into an open manhole, the Punjab State Human Rights Commission, (PSHRC), has once again directed the Deputy Commissioner to inquire into the matter and submit a report to the commission.

Lt Tejinder Singh Sandhu has been awarded Sena Medal (gallantry award) on Independence Day by the President of India. This medal has been given to him for his act of bravery against the militants in North-East.

Bank officer convicted for embezzling over Rs 25 lakh
Ludhiana, August 18
The Judicial Magistrate, Mr Tarsem Mangla, has convicted a bank officer, Gurdev Singh Sahota of Maludh branch of Bank of India, on the charges of cheating, forgery, committing fraud with the bank and its account holders by withdrawing more than Rs 25 lakh. He had made fictitious entries and forged the documents.

Budding designers sparkle in NIFD contest
Ludhiana, August 18
National Institute of Fashion Design presented Anavaran — the annual designer contest to mark the passing out of its final year students at Sutlej Club here last evening. The event was witnessed by around 3,000 connoisseurs of good taste. The design capabilities of students were showcased through a mega show consisting of 98 dresses, all based on innovative themes conceived by the budding designers. The dresses were displayed gracefully by professional models including Aanchal Oberoi, Simran Sachdeva, Sanjana Tomar and Angela Sharma. The show was choreographed by renowned choreographer Mr Jeet Brar and anchored by Mr Pallab Bose. There were total 14 rounds on various themes. The “Utsav” round was inspired by Chandragupta Maurya period, when women realised that covering their body was even more attractive than exposing it.
