Ludhiana, August 18 The students exchanged sweets. The Principal of the school Mrs, Simmi Gupta, advised the students to maintain the spirit of universal love and attitude of brotherhood and faith in one another. Science fair: Ritambra Public School, Sunder Nagar, here organised an impressive “Science Fair and Art & Craft Exhibition “today. Prof S.C.Jain and Mrs Usha Jain inaugurated the exhibition. The students’ deep involvement showed their understanding of various aspects of science. The whole display was quite educative.Rakhi competition: A rakhi-making competition was organised at Baba Isher Singh (Nanaksar) Senior Secondary Public School, B.R.S. Nagar, here. Both boys and girls students from classes VI to XII participated in it. Students prepared beautiful rakhis with colourful threads and other decorative material. Mrs Karuna Mahindra, Director, Tac Art Gallery, and the school principal, Mrs. Aneeta Kundra, were the judges. Mrs Kundra talked about the importance of RakhiMathematics seminar: A mathematics seminar was organised on Thursday by the mathematics faculty, KVM School, under the guidance of the Principal, Mr S.C. Saxena. Two eminent educationists Mr Sabhasachi Mittra and Mrs Sonali Mittra, members of an NGO in Delhi, Jodo Gyan, encouraged the audience to make the subject more interesting. The one-day seminar was attended by around 100 teachers from all over the state. Stress was laid on activity-based teaching where the taught should have more fun.The guests were divided into groups to give them an idea of how to develop interest in mathematics using innovative techniques like story-telling, block beads, pebbles, etc. This new technique was highly appreciated by all. The workshop has been sponsored by Bharti Bhawan Publishers, Delhi. Competitions held: Declamation, painting and model-making competitions were organised at the tehsil level ( Ludhiana West) here on Wednesday at Govt. Senior Secondary School, PAU Ludhiana, on energy and natural resources.Dapinder Kaur of class XI from Baba Ishar Singh (N) Senior Secondary Public School, B.R.S. Nagar, Ludhiana, won the first position in the declamation contest. In model making, Jaspreet Kaur and Appinder Kaur of class XII secured the third position in the competition. |
NASA contest winners honoured
Ludhiana, August 18 The occasion was the inauguration of a three-storeyed building of Ramgarhia Elementary School. The school has been running since 1944 and its original building had become dilapidated and was reconstructed by the Ramgarhia Education Council. The Deputy Commissioner was all praise for the efforts of the council for providing quality education. Mr Verma gave away Rs 50,000 from his discretionary fund to the school. Eight team members of the school were present to receive the honours along with their guide Anita Singh. The students of Class XII (medical and non-medical) were in high spirits after being adjudged the best team. They had presented a project, Complete Design of Space Settlement in 2045. Four members of the last prize winning team were in the present team too. |

Bank officer convicted for embezzling over Rs 25 lakh
Ludhiana, August 18 The accused has been sentenced to three years’ imprisonment each under Sections 420, 467, 468 and 471 of the IPC. However, all sentences shall run concurrently. The accused has also been ordered to pay a fine of Rs 17,000 for different offences. “The accused had been robbing both the bank, in which he was working, as well as its clients. He was trying to destroy the financial institution where he was working. He not only duped bank customers but also sullied, the name of the institution”, observed Mr Mangla while declining the plea of leniency raised by the accused.“Financial institutions like banks secure their customers on the basis of faith and once due to the misdeeds of some of its employee, the mutual faith is lost, the edifice of such an institution crashes, the Judge remarked while pronouncing the verdict. Interestingly, Bank of India had to reimburse Rs 25, 85, 725 to its customers who had been deceived by the accused to maintain credibilty among them. The accused was booked at Payal Police Station, on May 19, 2001 following a complaint made by Mr Kuldeep Singh Bhatti, Manager of Bank of India’s Malaudh Branch. The complainant had submitted to the SSP, Ludhiana, in a written representation stating that the accused had withdrawn Rs 5 lakh from the account of Sukdev Singh of Saharan Majra village, Rs 45,000 from the account of Malkiat Singh, Rossiana village by forging their signatures. Similarly he made fictitious credit entries in several accounts and thereafter withdrew the amount from those accounts by forging the signatures of account holders. He allegedly also disbursed loans to fictitious persons. Malkiat Singh of Daultpur village had given Rs 2,90000 to the bank for clearing his outstanding debt. The accused had issued a receipt as a token and closed his account but the amount was never deposited in the Bank, claimed prosecution. However, the accused pleaded not guilty and claimed false implication. But convinced with the evidence produced by prosecution after examining 12-witnesses, the court found him guilty and sentenced accordingly. |
Budding designers sparkle in NIFD contest
Ludhiana, August 18 The design capabilities of students were showcased through a mega show consisting of 98 dresses, all based on innovative themes conceived by the budding designers. The dresses were displayed gracefully by professional models including Aanchal Oberoi, Simran Sachdeva, Sanjana Tomar and Angela Sharma. The show was choreographed by renowned choreographer Mr Jeet Brar and anchored by Mr Pallab Bose. There were total 14 rounds on various themes. The “Utsav” round was inspired by Chandragupta Maurya period, when women realised that covering their body was even more attractive than exposing it. The collection ‘Wild’n’ Wacky’ was based on animal prints with the range of neutral and a touch of orange. The designers emphasised on quirky edgy details like coin embellishments and patch work.An intense culture with tingling of bells, enchantment of prayers, calmness, peace and non-violence was depicted by the models in ‘Moksh’ round. Honey Sharma won the first prize for her collection in ‘Utsav’. In ‘Folklore’, Paritosh was the winner, ‘Maqbool’ collection’s winner was Harmanpreet. Silky Khurana won the best designer award in ‘Wild’n’Wacky’ round. Rekha Sharma and Raminderdeep won awards for designing outfits in ‘Moksh’, ‘Rainbow’ collection was won by Mona Sodhi. Ravneet Kaur won the award for ‘Stripe Tease’ collection while Isha Bhandari won prize for ‘Rags to Riches’. Honey Sharma won another award for ‘Graphical Signage’ designs. Gurmeet Singh was the best designer in ‘Aatisheen’ collection. Shivani Talwar won for ‘Enigma’, Ruchi Bhardwaj won laurels in ‘Dare devil’ collection. Ashu and Ritika were the best designers for ‘Gulkari’ designs while Silky Khurana won a prize for best designing in ‘Nupur’ collection. ‘Aatisheen’ round was adjudged the “best round” and ‘best accessories’ award was won by the students for ‘Folklore’
collection. The students were given prizes by the Deputy Commissioner, Mr Anurag Verma. |
