IT returns can be filed by March 31, 2006, without fine

Income tax assessees, who missed the July 31 deadline for filing the returns, need not despair. They can still file their returns without paying any interest or penalty till March 31, 2006.

HUDA wants police to vacate booths

The Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA) and the district police are at logger heads over the latter’s refusal to vacate the booths allotted to them for police posts.

Milk tested for adulteration
Panchkula, August 7
With reports of adulterated milk pouring in, the Haryana Dairy Development Cooperative Federation today organised a milk testing-cum-consumer contact programmes at the Community Centre in Sector 11.
The camp was arranged by the Ambala District Milk Producers Union, which is one
of the unions working under the federation and responsible for milk marketing
here. The facility for free testing of fat, SNF, and checking urea presence, and that of soda or any other chemicals was available. Of the 75 samples tested here, about 20 per cent were found adulterated with water. All these samples were from private milkmen, claimed a press note.
A peep into the world of British Raj

The BBC is producing two series on the experiences of the people during the British rule in India and during Partition. Titled “Meet the Raj” and “The Partition of India”, these are scheduled to be broadcast on TV in 2007 to mark the 60th anniversary of Independence.
Sukhna Blues
The Sukhna Lake is a prized water feature of City Beautiful. Not only is it a tourist attraction, but also the citizenry here frequents it all too often. It is indeed a favourite haunt of the old and the young; the rich and the poor.

Dotted by potholes

Notwithstanding regular recarpeting, the city roads never seem to be in a position to take the onslaught of the monsoon. Not so heavy by any standard though, the monsoon this year has left the city roads in a shambles.
Due to downpour for the past two days, city roads have caved in at several places. Slush and trenches around rotaries are common as shown in the pictures taken by lensman Vinay Malik. The frames project the plight of Chandigarh roads. They feature a trench around Sector 20 gurdwara rotary, heavy slush all over the roundabout of Sectors 33 and 34 and virtually washed away roads of Sectors 40-41, 46-47 and 47-48. |
