Srinagar, July 14 Elsewhere, at least six militants have been killed in separate incidents in Kashmir valley since yesterday. A defence spokesman here said that glacier, high altitude and incessant rains made the operations slow. The militants, in a life-saving bid, dispersed in small groups, he added. The troops, in sustained operations kept the pressure on the terrorists, keeping them on the run. The spokesman said that so far seven bodies of terrorists had been recovered and the operation was in progress. The infiltration bid was part of a larger plan from across the LoC, the spokesman stated. He added this was the 14th infiltration attempt made by militants since April this year resulting in the elimination of 52 terrorists. The terrorists in the Gurez infiltration attempt were spotted by the troops of the 20 Punjab near Kabuli Gali. Involve people of J&K
in talks, says Omar
Srinagar, July 14 He cautioned the APHC leadership against moving ahead without any agenda for talks with the Central Government, which had not even recognised the autonomy demand of his party. Mr Omar Abdullah urged the Government of India to talk to the people of Jammu and Kashmir to find a solution to the problem. The former Union minister was talking to media persons at the party headquarters here this afternoon, a day after paying tributes to the martyrs of July 13, 1931, at Mazar-e-Shohda here yesterday. Announcing reorganisation of the district committees of the National Conference, Mr Omar lashed out at the alleged failures of the Mufti-led coalition government in the state. He criticised the government on the alleged failures on various fronts, including security and rampant corruption. Mr Omar took strong exception to the absence of the Chief Minister, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, at the unified command meeting held by the Union Home Minister, Mr Shivraj Patil, here on Sunday last. He said that it was a serious and deliberate attempt on the part of the Chief Minister to stay away from the important meeting that reviewed security scenario in the state. It was to highlight various alleged failures of the coalition government that he submitted a memorandum to the Governor here recently. Pointing to the recent visit of the Hurriyat leaders to PoK and Pakistan, Mr Omar claimed that they had returned “empty-handed”. He questioned the Hurriyat leadership as to what did it expect from New Delhi, adding that there was nothing that the Central Government could offer to the APHC leadership. Mr Omar held that the Government of India had failed in delivering on the autonomy demand of the National Conference, which had been passed by the state legislature. Claiming that Indo-Pak agreements on Kashmir did not help in resolving the issue, Mr Omar said that there was no solution possible without the involvement of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. Pointing towards the idea of the united states of Kashmir floated during the APHC’s Pak visit, Mr Omar said if that was beneficial, the NC would withdraw its autonomy demand. Referring to his party’s demand of autonomy, Mr Omar Abdullah said that it was the only “clear agenda” that was being discussed. |
