WORKSHOP: A three-day workshop on PC hardware and assembling started at Gujranwala Guru Nanak Institute of Vocational Studies here on Thursday. On the first day of the workshop, Mr Jaswinder Singh, lecturer in computer science, delivered a lecture on assembling the mother board and different parts of computer. Students will be given certificates after the conclusion of the workshop.

FACULTY PROGRAMME: The Department of Business Management of the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) in collaboration with the Punjab Commerce and Management Association (PCMA) will organise a Faculty Development Programme (FDP) on 'Strategic Management' for Commerce and Management teachers of colleges and universities of Punjab and PCMA members on June 25 and 26.

MUTUAL FUND: ING Vysya Mutual Fund announced its entry in markets of Punjab by setting up its office here on Thursday. It will be the company's 32 network office in the country. Mr Vikas Sachdeva, country manager, business development, said the office would provide expert investment advise and also easy access to financial products offered by the company.

LAUNCHED: Overseas Connexion Limited has launched a range of 'Ariston Washing Machines'. According to a press note, the washing machines will be available in two models and equipped with state-of-the-art technology.

ELECTED: Mr Tarsem Saini, a rice mill owner, was elected president of the Punjab Rice Millers Association (PRMA). The elections were held under the supervision of 11-member election committee headed by the chairman, Mr Harsih Devgun.

ELECTED: Mr Ajit Singh and Mr Vijay Pal Mundey have been elected president and general secretary of the LIG Residents Welfare Association, Sector 41-A, respectively.

MEETING: Mr Devender Vaddeti, member of the National Commission for Scheduled Castes, on Monday held a meeting with the representatives of various Scheduled Caste organisations. Issues pertaining to the reservation of 5 per cent quota in the allotment of the government houses, issuance of SC certificates, filling the backlog of vacancies, reservation in the educational institutions and promotion cases were discussed at the meeting.

Observed:
The local unit of Bhartiya Janta Party on Thursday observed the martyrdom day of Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee at Arya Samaj here. Floral tributes were paid to the leader and his sacrifice in Jammu jail was remembered.

Car dealership: Berkeley Automobiles Ltd, the fourth Maruti authorised dealership was inaugurated in the Chandigarh region on Wednesday in Panchkula. It will also cater to the customers of Chandigarh, Ropar, Kalka, Parwanoo, Nalagarh, Baddi and other neighbouring areas. While 100 cars have already been booked, the keys of 11 cars were handed over to the customers. The dealership plans to have a Maruti True Value outlet.
