The temperature in Chandigarh, Mohali and Panchkula hit a scorching 42.4 Degrees Celsius today, just a bit lower than this summer’s highest recorded temperature on June 4 at 42.6 degrees Celsius.

Army reduces liquor quota for all ranks from CSD canteen

The scale of entitlement to draw liquor from Canteen Stores Department outlets by serving armed forces personnel as well as ex-servicemen has been reduced across the board. 280 cartons of liquor seized, 1 arrested
Chandigarh, June 18
A bid to smuggle liquor was foiled late last night with the arrest of one person. At least 280 cartons of various brands of liquor were seized from him. However, the other accused managed to give a slip to the police.

A 10-year-old girl, Upasana Devi, was killed after a Maruti Zen car hit her near Shiv Mandir in Colony No. 5 this afternoon.

PU Syndicate’s no to three new courses

Three new courses —Master of Business Economics, postgraduate diploma in entrepreneurship and PG diploma in knowledge management — have not received approval from the Panjab University Syndicate. At a meeting held today, the Syndicate has decided not to run the courses for the forthcoming session 2005-06.

50 pc reduction in Hutchworld rental
Chandigarh, June 18
Hutch yesterday introduced low rental and usage-based charging for Hutchworld. Existing post-paid and pre-paid subscribers can “opt-in” for the new tariff scheme from September 1. Hutchworld can now be availed at Rs 49 per month and a usage-based charge of 10p per 10KB will be levied.
