Phagwara
DEMANDED: Villagers, led by noted educationist Jagat Singh Palahi, have urged Mr Rakesh Verma, Director, Transport, Punjab, to start a bus service between Phagwara and Palahi. A press note by Principal of Community Polytechnic, Palohi, Mr Gurmit Palahi, on Sunday said that Mr Rakesh Verma was honoured for his outstanding services.

KILLED: Subhash (19) died when the three-wheeler he was riding overturned and he was crushed under it. It was learnt on Sunday that the three-wheeler was loaded with cold drink bottles. It was being driven by Manoj Kumar, Subhash was acting as a helper.

THEFT: Valuables, including a laptop, were stolen from a car parked outside a dhaba along the GT Road on the outskirts of Phagwara. The police has registered a case of theft.

EMPLOYEES UNION: Mr M.S. Kohli has been elected President of the Punjab and Haryana High Court Employees Union while Mr Raghbir Singh has been elected vice-president. This is the fourth time that Mr Kohli has been elected to the same post. The other office-bearers are: Mr Vijender Singh (general secretary), Ms Manjit Kaur (joint secretary), Mr Rajinder Bhatia (social secretary), Mr Rajinder Thakur (Sports Secretary) and Mr Sanjiv Gupta (cashier).

SHOT: Ravinder Yadav (32), son of Mr Keshav Ram Yadav, was shot dead allegedly by an ex-serviceman at Kharagwas village, near here, on Saturday night. It is stated that the accused, Gyan Chand, son of Mr Chhanga Ram of Kharagwas village, had an altercation with Ravinder Yadav following which the accused pumped bullets from his gun into the victim’s chest, killing him on the spot. The Rampura police has registered a case of murder under Section 302 of the IPC.

KILLED: A cyclist was killed on the spot when he was hit by a motor cycle on the GT Road, near Bari village, on Monday. According to a report, the cyclist was going towards the STD PCO on the GT Road when he was hit by the motor cycle. The motorcyclist, however, escaped leaving his motor cycle behind.

RECOVERED: The GRP recovered the body of an unidentified man, lying on the railway track, near the flyover here on Monday and sent it for the postmortem. According to a report, he was crossing the railway track when he was hit by a train and killed on the spot.

REGISTERED: The police has registered a case under Sections 406, 420, 506 and 34, IPC, against Neeraj Kumar and Dheeraj Kumar of Singhaula village on the complaint of Mr Bijender Singh of West Ram Nagar that the two brothers had got installed a CNG kit in their bus at a cost of Rs 2.72 lakh but did not make the payment in time.
